ALL SOULS REQUIEM The Solemn Mass of All Souls with Mozart’s Requiem will be celebrated on Friday, November 1 at 7:00pm. All are welcome. There will be just one All Souls Mass on Saturday, November 2, at 8:00am.
REMEMBERING OUR BELOVED DEAD You are invited to write the names of deceased loved ones in the Book of Remembrance which has been placed near the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This book will be carried in procession at the solemn Requiem Mass of All Souls on Friday, November 1 at 7:00pm.
NO TAIZÉ ON NOVEMBER 1 Because of the solemn Requiem Mass on November 1 at 7:00pm, we will not have our monthly Taizé prayer in November. The next Taizé Prayer will be Friday, December 6 at 6:30pm.
ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU This young man returned from a trip back East for a funeral (he has had several deaths in his family recently) to discover that he was behind on his rent. In the past, he worked for his apartment building where rent was deducted from his paycheck. With a new job and recent stress he had overlooked making a new payment system. ARE YOU A REGISTERED PARISHIONER AT ST. JAMES? Many who attend St. James regularly and consider the Cathedral their parish have never officially registered. We strongly encourage you to register. Registered parishioners receive important mailings from the Cathedral (including offering envelopes!), are recipients of the Cathedral’s journal In Your Midst, are able to celebrate their wedding at the Cathedral, and their children may attend any of the Catholic Rainbow Schools at parishioner rates (and become eligible for Cathedral scholarships). In addition, if you are a registered parishioner and use envelopes, or are on the direct debit program, we will mail you a quarterly report of your contributions to the parish. JOIN A LITURGICAL MINISTRY We are always in need of people to join the liturgical ministries of usher, reader, altar server, and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. JOIN THE CATHEDRAL USHERS At all the Masses for weekends, holy days, and other special occasions, Cathedral ushers welcome visitors, hand out bulletins, answer questions, and assist with the collection and communion procession. SANDWICH MAKING MINISTRY Healthy sandwiches can be made at home and then brought to the Cathedral to share with men staying at the St. Martin de Porres Shelter. This is a great activity for families with young children, people with busy lives, and anyone who is not able to go out and serve. LIFE LONG LEARNING Tutor Glenn and student T celebrated their 3-year tutoring anniversary recently. T is in her late 80s, and we are inspired by her zest for continual learning! She has steadily made her way from Level 2 to Level 5 in our curriculum. In addition to the ESL textbook, T & Glenn have been reading young adult versions of classics, like Ben Hur & Tom Sawyer. They are now reading The Three Musketeers together. T & Glenn have learned a lot about each other’s journey and culture, and continue to cultivate their friendship.
