Partners in the Gospel: Feedback begins 9/23

PARTNERS IN THE GOSPEL is a strategic and pastoral planning effort taking place across the Archdiocese of Seattle in the coming months. Most of our parish and mission churches will become part of a “parish family” under a single pastor. Each family will be served by one, two, or more priests. A “Current Reality” video is available, which explains more about the changing realities for the Church in western Washington and how Partners in the Gospel will help us respond to the times. Currently, consultation is underway with parish staff and leadership groups across the Archdiocese. Public consultation about the proposed family groups will soon begin. Register now for one of these sessions!

ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU A woman moved to the Pacific Northwest to get a fresh start. Finding an apprentice program that paid for hours she worked while getting on-the-job training, she felt more optimistic about her future than she had in the past. When a medical issue set her back after a few weeks of missing work and pay, she fell behind in paying her rent. This neighbor called the St Vincent de Paul Helpline requesting assistance (206-767-6449 or online https://svdpseattle.org/get-help/online-help-request-form/). We offered enough help to get the woman back-on-track financially as she returned to work. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.

SEATTLE HUMAN SERVICES CANDIDATE FORUM Tuesday, September 19, 5:30pm–8pm at the UHeights Center (5031 University Way NE) The St. James Housing Advocacy Committee encourages all Seattle residents to attend a free, fun, and informative candidate forum covering all 7 Seattle districts. This is an opportunity for human service providers—and the people in the communities they influence—to hear directly from candidates about questions not be posed by other groups. Information, https://www.shscoalition.org/.

In this special Mass of the Holy Spirit, we pray together with him in preparation for this extraordinary time for the whole Church. All are welcome. This special Mass will also be livestreamed on Vimeo and Facebook. Come, Holy Spirit!

CAPPELLA ROMANA CONCERT – ODES OF REPENTANCE Friday, September 29 at 7:30pm. Cappella Romana opens its 32nd season with music for healing, for repentance in the Orthodox sense: a change of mind, a moving towards the Good. The concert includes the North American premiere of Vespers by Ukrainian-Estonian composer Galina Grigorjeva. Selections from her fellow Orthodox composer Arvo Pärt complete the concert, including highlights from his emotionally powerful Kanon Pokajanen, the Kanon of Repentance. Information and tickets ($5-$53), visit www.cappellaromana.org. Pay-what-you-can parishioner passes are available at the Cathedral parish office or by contacting the music office.

CARE FOR CREATION TIP OF THE WEEK In 2015, Pope Francis published Laudato Si’, which included Care for Creation into the breadth of Catholic Social Teaching. Now would be a most opportune time to read his encyclical learn for the first time, or to revisit that document, since we are in the Season of Creation. A follow-up to Laudato Si’ will be released on October 4, the conclusion of the Season of Creation, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, and the opening day of the upcoming Synod.

EARTHQUAKE IN MOROCCO On Friday, September 8, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Morocco near Marrakech. More than 300,000 people are affected and at least 2,490 were killed. Access to remote areas with the worst destruction—especially in mountain towns—remains difficult. Catholic Relief Services is supporting Caritas Rabat, whose teams mobilized a response within 24 hours to the hardest-to-reach areas. Parallel to a robust response from the Moroccan government and bilateral assistance from a number of countries, Caritas has identified priority areas for support where essential relief supplies will be sent to families in the coming days. Your prayers and support will make so much difference. Please give a vital gift today! https://support.crs.org/donate/morocco-earthquake

40 DAYS FOR LIFE Help save lives by praying for an end to abortion. Knowing that “with God, all things are possible,” people of faith and conscience unite in 40 days of prayer and fasting. Prayer keeps us rooted in the fact that it is our desire to carry out God’s will. Fasting is a sacrifice that helps us reach beyond our own limitations with God’s help. Consider praying this prayer each day, from September 27 to November 5, for the dignity of all life.: Father, you are the God of hope. Your word fills us with the vision of the world to come, when every tear will be wiped away, and death will be no more. Father, how we need that hope, how we are strengthened by that vision! Keep our hearts focused on heaven, and diligent in the labors of earth. As we struggle against the culture of death, root our souls in the assurance of victory. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen. www.40DaysForLife.com

ARE YOU A REGISTERED PARISHIONER AT ST. JAMES? Many who attend St. James regularly and consider the Cathedral their parish have never officially registered. We strongly encourage you to register. Registered parishioners receive important mailings from the Cathedral (including offering envelopes), are regular recipients of the Cathedral’s journal In Your Midst, are able to celebrate their wedding at the Cathedral, and their children may attend any of the Catholic Rainbow Schools at parishioner rates (and become eligible for Cathedral scholarships). In addition, if you are a registered parishioner, we will send you a quarterly report of your contributions to the parish. Register online at www.stjames-cathedral.org. If you are not sure whether or not you’re registered, call the Parish Office, 206-622-3559.

WEEKLY MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS GROUPS Every Friday of the month, 10-11:30am the Mental Health and Wellness Ministry will be having different groups for mental health support, including art, board games, a mental health support group, mindfulness, yoga, and prayer, and a movie. Held in the Pastoral Outreach Center. Registration and information, Anisa Ralls, 206-382-4269 or aralls@stjames-cathedral.org.
