Monthly eNewsletter - July 2018

Hello All,
Just a quick note to catch everybody up. Spent a week in Santa Barbara with friends and family, saw some 4
th
of July fireworks, then went on to a full-on gallup week at the Happy Dog Ranch in Colorado where we did a Weekend Seminar and our third collaborative clinic with Mark Rashid, Considering the Horse – Mind and Body. Or as we refer to it, the Mark and Jim Show.

“Alright you dad-gum varmint. Draw!"
|
|
I can’t tell you how amazing it is when we bring a horse and rider into the middle of what Mark has to offer and a little bit of what I have to share. Listen to what the rider has to say, see what the horse has to say, then mix it up with some bodywork and the results are amazing. Mark and I have talked about how much we both learn at these things. When it’s shared with the horse, the rider, and the auditors it’s pretty powerful stuff.

They do a lot of good work at the Happy Dog both with horses and humans, plus it’s a nice place to stay.I noticed every morning from my porch, when they let the horses out to pasture, the same thing would happen with a tiny little grey burro and his buddy, a big ole’ painted gypsy vanner. The big paint would amble out. The donkey would lag way behind, stop to roll, then take off bucking to catch up with his buddy. I guess this routine provided him a little drama in his life.
Anyways, it went well again and we’ll be doing it some more, so keep an eye on the newsletter and our
Course Calendar
.

One more short trip to California in a week then I’ll have almost a whole month at home. Should give me time to catch up. I’m looking forward to reading this newsletter so I can see what’s going on myself.
Will also give me time to prepare for the annual fall trip to England and winter trip to Australia. While there I’ll be at the
Equitana horse expo in Melbourne and also, for the first time, teaching a
Weekend Seminar at
Steve Halfpenny’s Silversand Horsemanship Centre in Blanchetown, South Australia.
Please take time to read about our new Masterson Method Certified Practitioners, and also to see what’s new with our Equine Specialist Program. (There will be a test : )
In lieu of more exciting news I’ll leave you with a couple of exciting photos of our little homestead here in Iowa:

“Homestead on a sunny day.”

“Homestead on a stormy day.”

Also have a gander here at Babalooey and his Gypsy buddy on their morning routine:

(yeehaw!)
Until our next exciting newsletter,
like me,
Enjoy your horses - and donkeys!

This month's blog post was from Megan Dushin, Masterson Method Fieldwork Student and Program coordinator for the Masterson Method Equine Specialist trainings.

Brooke USA is a super organization
to which we frequently donate.
The excerpt below was from their recent newsletter.
|
|
The bulk of the donkeys, mules and horses’ work consists of transporting wet and dry bricks by cart or pack within the kilns and to external locations for use in the construction industry.
These animals carry many tons of bricks in blistering heat every day. They suffer from serious health and welfare issues caused by the environment in which they work, as well as by poor husbandry and management. Extreme temperatures, lack of shade, difficult terrain and overloading can cause disease and injuries. Wounds and lameness are common.
Our "Brooke Bricks" campaign will raise funds to support Brooke's very effective equine welfare projects in many of India's kilns. "

New Certified Practitioners

Tine Ditmar
Bernex, Haute Savoie
Tine was born in the Netherlands, where she obtained her certification as a physiotherapist. However, she felt that there was more to “taking care” of people, so she went on to complete a three-year course in naturopathy with a specialization in acupuncture and phytotherapy (the use of medical herbs). At the same time, she studied shiatsu and raja yoga, She then moved to France, where she worked in a local hospital for 25 years as a physiotherapist.
She took her first riding lesson at the age of 40 (she had wanted to ride since she was a child, but her parents thought it was “too dangerous”). When she was 45, she bought her mare, Mia, who has helped her learn a lot both about horses and about herself.
In trying to find the best way to do that, she discovered The Masterson Method and intuitively knew that it was what she had been looking for. She would very much like to get The Masterson Method more known and widespread in France to help people help themselves and their horses. Over time she has found that the “simpler” things have more “power” and that in humans as well as horses the “body doesn’t lie.“
Tine uses her deep knowledge of physiotherapist with a more holistic point of view in combination with The Masterson Method to work with horses and donkeys as well as riders/owners in the greater Geneva area.

Sonia Bascu
ñ
ana,
Barcelona, Spain
Ever since she was a little girl, Sonia has always felt fascinated with horses, with the beauty of their souls and their noble and generous character. For years she has been learning and studying to understand their nature, how to establish a relationship with them and how to help them.
Through this learning journey, she decided to make it her life's aim to do anything that she could to help improve the communication between people and horses, so that they could benefit mutually, and also that horses could lead a better life.
She started studying an Equine Therapy postgraduate, and thanks to it, she could see how much people with different issues could improve just by riding and/or establishing a relationship with horses. On the other hand, she also observed that many horses really needed some kind of therapy themselves after having worked as a “therapist” for the human, but unfortunately this was not always perceived by their caretakers.
That is when she started to take an interest and study several kinds of therapies to help horses release their tensions, which in some cases had been held for very long. Soon she came across Masterson Method and she realized that it was a really powerful method to help horses release physical and emotional tensions, and that that was exactly what she had been looking for to become practitioner of.
Sonia is based in Barcelona and is willing to travel.
