Today the AUHSD Governing Board made their annual visit to Miramonte to observe classrooms and meet with faculty and staff. The Board is extremely supportive of the work we do as a school community, and I’m always grateful to showcase our fabulous students and staff to them. As part of the visit, we also discussed some of our school wide focus areas for the year:
9th Graders
Supporting our 9th Grade students as they transition to high school is a key priority this year. Each month, we are organizing activities and events to help 9th Graders feel more connected and engaged within our school community. We've increased resources, staffing, and dedicated time to ensure we provide meaningful experiences each month.
Connection, Equity, and Wellness
We continue to focus on fostering connection, equity, and wellness in our courses and daily life at Miramonte. This includes teachers dedicating more time to developing students’ executive functioning skills, like time management and study habits, expanding our curriculum to be more inclusive and relevant, and creating space for students to connect with one another and staff members.
Professional Learning Teams (PLTs)
Our teacher teams meet weekly to collaborate on curriculum planning, analyze student data, and align pacing, grading, and unit structures. By working together, our goal is to elevate the best teaching practices, ensure consistency and rigor across all classes in the same subject, and reduce workload by sharing resources like lesson plans, exams, and ideas.
Student Engagement
Challenge Success survey results over the past five years indicate that most high school students are “doing school” rather than truly engaging with their learning. To address this, our staff is developing more interactive, hands-on lessons that promote collaboration, communication, and creativity. We’ve also reinforced our cell phone and laptop policies, leading to fewer distractions and increased focus in class.
We are expecting a very big crowd for tonight’s home football game against Campo, so please arrive early, dress warm, and cheer loud! Have a great long weekend in honor of our United States Veterans and Go Mats!
