Lt. Governor Karyn Polito offers citations for bravery and heroism to the four MBY employees who rescued Phil Macomber from the fire on August 19, 2022

No one wants to be a hero. It just happens when you least expect it. That is not to say that bravery, selflessness and courage come easily. On August 19, 2022, Roger, Jake, Trevellis and Jacey jumped into action to save the life of their friend and co-worker Phil. They had no training, it certainly was not in their job description. Yet they put their own lives on the line for another. No questions asked. Here we are 6 weeks later and Phil is home from the hospital and expected to make a full recovery. This is indeed a miracle!!

From day one, we have been in touch with Lt. Governor Karyn Polito. She contacted us and committed to helping in any way that was needed. In fact, she stepped in early with what was looking like a huge delay in the cleanup process. She and her staff were able to work out the problems at the State level and the cleanup continued two days later.

More recently, our Lt. Governor, having heard what actions our four employees did to save Phil, decided that special recognition was due for them and for all of the first responders who worked that day. Others present were Rep. Bill Straus, Audra Riding (representing Senator Mark Montigny), MA Fire Marshall Peter Ostroskey, Mattapoisett Fire Chief Andy Murray and Mattapoisett Police Chief Jason King. Each of these amazing leaders offered their own words of support and recognition. It was truly profound to hear each express their own views of what it takes to put your own life on the line for the greater good. All of the equipment, facilities and years of training came together on that day which made the difference between saving an adjacent residence and especially saving a life!

Phil is alive today due to the bravery and courage of his fellow teammates. That they should be honored and commended this way is perfect! No one asked to be recognized or rewarded. They just happened to be there when Phil needed them most. The monster that was the fire lost that day.
