Salem Presbytery, Matthew 25, and You: Notes in Transition

Dear friends,

We look forward to seeing you at our winter stated meeting on Tuesday, February 4, at Clemmons Presbyterian Church. We hope all ministers who are members of our presbytery will come, and we ask each session to make sure your church is represented by one or more commissioners. We will worship together, enjoy fellowship, and conduct business as we seek direction from God.

Salem's Executive Council last month unanimously voted to endorse the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s Matthew 25 initiative, to commend it to our presbytery, and to call on Salem to declare we are a Matthew 25 presbytery. The initiative calls us to orient our mission around the words of Jesus, to build congregational vitality, dismantle structural racism, and eradicate systematic poverty. Our own Diane Givens Moffett (still a member of Salem Presbytery), president and executive director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency, will preach and lead us in considering opportunities in mission available to us through the Matthew 25 initiative. As you consider our response to the invitation of the Executive Council, please make yourself familiar with the initiative, with information at this link:

The meeting is two weeks away, but since we hear occasional word that scheduled meetings sneak up on people, I want to call your attention to it, to ask that you make sure to be present, or your church is represented, and be prepared to consider important matters before our presbytery and church.

Grace and peace!
