Open Round Robin - At 10am, all entries will be 'evenly' split into round robin groups of about 5 players. For those of you who are gnipgnop-challenged that means Table 1 will have 5 players. Table 2 will have 5 players. And so on... Every player on Table 1 will play each other. The winner of Table 1 will be placed into the Group A single elimination event. Second place on table 1 will be entered into the Group B single elimination event. Third place into the Group C event. Likewise, the winner of Table 2 will also be entered into the Group A single elimination event. So on and so forth. The winner of the Group A single elimination event will win 30% of all the entry fees of the Open Round Robin. 2nd place will win 20% of the total entry fees received. 3rd place 15%.
Handicap - The handicap event (at NOON) is designed to give every player of every level a chance to win. The chart below will be used to level the playing field by giving the lower ranked player a head start in one game to 51. The tournament committee will establish the players ranking before the event starts. Using the USATT handicap chart located at www.usatt.org, if Player A has a rating of 1500 and Player B has a rating of 1700, then Player be will be given a 16 to 0 lead in one game to 51. The Handicap Event is a single elimination tournament. The winner will win 50% of the handicap entry fees; 2nd place 25%, and 3rd place 15%.
Recently, we used our club ratings to host a club handicap tournament - 21 players participated! A handicap event essentially levels the playing field in a one-game match to 51 points. For example, when a novice player competes against a highly skilled play, the novice is spotted a headstart of say 35 points in one game to 51. Needless to say, our group of highly competitve individuals thoroughly enjoyed themselves. 100% of the pot was paid to the top 3 winners. Chad Cumby won the event and $. Kyle Hess took 2nd place and $ while Dominic Pereby edged out Xing Xiong for 3rd place and more $!
