For thirty years I have been bringing in the best songwriters I know in an effort for them to connect with longtime fans or simply work to develop their audience. From the famous ( Jimmy Webb, Ramblin Jack Elliott, Arlo Guthrie, Lucinda Williams, Peter Asher, Albert Lee) to the many well-worn troubadours in folk and Americana mostly, the Blue Door is in a class by itself. I have never thought of myself as a club owner, but rather a curator and caretaker. Songs exist for many reasons, from the majestic Bruce Springsteen arena shows to local musicians playing nursing homes to the shut-ins . Of course, the Blue Door exists in-between those extremes, disparaging neither and letting songs do their work as they fall on everyone's ears differently. All I do know is that songs matter. Jimmy Webb taught us that songs can go in many different directions, and Woody Guthrie tells us they need to exist far from any commercial concern. I like both worlds. Max Stalling has been one of the best country songwriters in Texas for a very long time. His songs are at once memorable and thoughtful, reminding listeners of a time when country songs on the radio were smart and sincere. No pandering here, just honest songs about real life situations. With Heather along this will be a great night of songs, low key and intimate just like the Blue Door itself. I really love these folks and I always looked forward to their Blue Door shows in the past. If you like great country music, look no further.

While we are sold out for John's shows it must be said his last fourteen years of shows here have been some of the most memorable in our history. John is the best musician in Oklahoma for sure, and his songwriting ( when it happens) is world class. He has been such a part of my music life and this building that I am honored for him to kick out our 30th year!!! It was thirty years ago this weekend that Kevin Welch played the very first Blue Door show. Now we kick out the next thirty years and hope you can come to as many shows as possible, including current legends Robyn Hitchcock, Robbie Fulks and Teresa Williams and Larry Campbell. I am sure John will be playing here as long as we are open, so if you feel lucky drop by the shows and see if we have had any cancellations. It sometimes happens.
