"I have a strong group and we are very focused on the client's needs and making sure that they are satisfied with the work we do for them."

Thank a Tax Hero: Don Baxter & Team

"I think we all share a desire to help others."
We connected with Don Baxter, a Free Community Tax Service Site Coordinator. Don has been working at the Ellettsville Library site for three tax seasons, but he has over a decade of experience working and volunteering as a tax preparer.
"I have a strong group and we are very focused on the client's needs and making sure that they are satisfied with the work we do for them," said Don of the volunteers working with him in Ellettsville. Don noted that while his volunteers were from all walks of life, from a retired lawyer to an accounting student, they are all committed to providing the best service possible to clients.

"United Way makes it easy for me to maximize my impact on our local community."

Campaign Spotlight: Melissa Ward, IU Campaign Team Captain
"The sum of the good work is larger than its parts," said Melissa Ward, IU Campaign Team Captain. "I support the United Way for many personal reasons. The most compelling reason, though, is that United Way makes it easy for me to maximize my impact on our local community."

Though she's fairly new to Indiana and IU, her work with United Way has helped shape how she sees the community.

"All of the United Way agencies are led by, staffed by, and serve our neighbors," Melissa said. "Working with United Way has introduced me to all the great agencies and work being done in our community. We are really lucky to have such a wonderful support network for those who need it most."

Celebrating a successful campaign -- 1950s style!

Record Breaking Donations!
In 1959, the United Fund - previously the Community Chest - exceeded its campaign goal for the first time in its history! They raised $149,155, well beyond their goal of $143,400. In fact, this exceeded all previous amounts raised by the organization under either name.
As we celebrate the bicentennials of the City of Bloomington and Monroe County in 2018, United Way is reflecting on our own history in the community. Throughout the year, each newsletter will feature a memory about United Way's long history in Monroe County.
