Thank You Fairbanks!

It's great to be headed back to Juneau for the 34th Alaska Legislature to continue serving as your Representative. In House District 31 (Downtown Fairbanks), the Division of Elections has completed counting the great majority of the ballots. I am pleased to announce that I have won reelection. I am deeply honored and humbled by your trust in re-electing me to continue serving in the Legislature. My commitment is to represent everyone in District 31—no matter how you voted. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve and to be a voice for you.

Thank you for your patience in waiting for my update. Ethics rules restrict the number and types of communications permitted during the campaign season and that is why you haven't seen any E-news update from me for a bit.

As you might imagine, I had an action-packed interim. Since Maxine's Message has been deferred over the summer, there is a lot of catching up to do. Look for these updates on a regular basis over the coming months. I have really enjoyed being out in the community this past summer, experiencing all that the Golden Heart City has to offer. It's especially informative and enjoyable to be out listening to and speaking with constituents and other community members. Read on to hear about the busy summer and fall I've had. Please take a moment to complete the Priorities Survey below. Please follow me on my official Representative socials if you don't already: Facebook, Instagram , and X. As you might imagine, I have accumulated a large volume of images taken by staff and friends over the summer, and to save folks space and time, I have linked a more comprehensive photo collection here --so please enjoy if you are interested.

Alaska House Majority Announced

I am honored to be joining the newly formed Alaska House Majority Coalition for the 34th Legislature. I am looking forward to collaborating with colleagues and pursuing solutions for Alaskans as a member of bipartisan caucus. We have a strong dynamic leadership team in place and they have already begun the important work of leading our state forward. The caucus is being organized around key priorities of education, energy solutions, strong workforce development, and sustainable budgets. These priorities parallel my own and will serve Fairbanksans and all Alaskans very well. Since the Alaska Senate has also announced the formation of a bipartisan coalition, I anticipate we will get to work without delay once the session convenes and that the next two years will be very fast-moving, efficient, and effective. I can't wait to get back down to Juneau and start the important work.

Key Leadership Positions and Legislative Priorities Announced for House Coalition

Bipartisan Leadership Shares Policy Priorities

ANCHORAGE – The Alaska House Majority Coalition is announcing key leadership positions following results from the general election, with Representative Bryce Edgmon (I-Dillingham) as Speaker, Representative Louise Stutes (R-Kodiak) as Rules Chair, and Representative Chuck Kopp (R-Anchorage) as Majority Leader.

“Alaskans have spoken clearly and we will work together, representing residents of all regions, to stabilize public education funding, develop affordable energy, and fix Alaska’s workforce crisis,” said Rep. Bryce Edgmon.

“I’m excited to be part of a coalition where we can work across party lines for the good of all Alaskans. I look forward to a very productive session,” said Rep. Louise Stutes.

“We’ve heard loud and clear Alaskans want us to fill police vacancies, provide outstanding public schools, and grow our economy,” said Rep. Chuck Kopp.

House Coalition legislative priorities include:

1.  Balanced budgets that honor the Percent of Market Value (POMV) spending cap.

2.  Stable public education funding to reduce class sizes and improve outcomes.

3. Retirement reform to fill critical public safety, resource permitting, and other positions.

4.  Energy development to drive investment, create jobs, and lower costs.

A Busy Interim!

It was a super-busy interim! I visited lots of community events, public meetings, openings, conferences, symposiums, and tours. Images from many of these are posted in the Images Link.

Some of the activities included: The Sampson Hardware 120 year Anniversary, Tanana Valley State Fair, I served on a panel at The Youth and Elders Conference at AFN, I co-chaired the Alaska Children's Caucus, I spoke at the Alaska Conference on Child Maltreatment, I toured the Resource Center for Parents and Children along with Stevie's Place, I attended the Aurora Bridge Ribbon Cutting, and the Fire Ops 101 firefighter training. I delivered a commencement speech for the Rural Alaska Honors Institute graduation ceremony, I attended several Picnics in the Parks, I was at the Fairbanks Vet Center Opening, the Fairbanks Senior Center Re-Opening, I served on a panel at the Rural Energy Association Conference, I toured IGU facilities and was at their Big tank/new trailers Grand Opening in south Fairbanks, and finally I spoke at the Indigenous Leadership Symposium. At these events I spoke to hundreds of people from all around Fairbanks and Alaska. I have learned much and I will take what I have learned and head back to Juneau ready to get back to work for the people of Fairbanks.

Legislative Priorities Survey

Your opinion matters to me! If you are so inclined, please take this short priorities survey to let my office know where you stand on some of the important issues that Alaskans face and which areas are priorities for you and which are less important?

Noyes Slough Aurora Bridge Completed

On September 16, I was able to join Senator Scott Kawasaki and Fairbanks Mayor David Pruhs along with DOT representative John Perreault at the ribbon cutting for the long-awaited re-opening of the Aurora Street Bridge across Noyes Slough. It is great to know that a key route and access point in District 31 is now open for use. The new bridge also features greatly improved safety features especially the improved pedestrian access over the bridge.
