Celebrating Canopy's 5,000th Tree

We’ve planted our 5,000th tree!! On May 4, Canopy’s Teen Urban Foresters had the honor of planting the tree at the soon to be opened Highway 101 pedestrian overpass in East Palo Alto. Canopy’s high school interns are leading a project to revitalize an empty field at Bayshore Christian Ministries into a vibrant park space for the public. To wrap up phase 1, our interns from Oxford Day Academy presented findings from three months of gathering community input. "The students’ results showed the most desired elements are a play area with swings and slide, bike/walking path, picnic area, outdoor classroom, paved basketball court, and planting and shade trees," shares Spence Koehler with PlaceWorks, "We are looking forward to taking these elements and working with the interns to organize and hold a design workshop that gets the community excited about the new site layout." Special thanks to Kaiser Permanente Northern California Community Benefit Programs for the funding that made this Oxford Day Academy & Bayshore Christian Ministries project possible!
