ADULT EDUCATION IN APRIL:

COMPASSION BIBLE STUDY: Our Bible Study on Matthew will continue for the final two Sundays of April, facilitated by Stephen Hilder and led by members of the class.  Please join us in the Wright Fellowship Hall (enter by the bell tower). The Wright Fellowship Hall is to your left as you enter. The Bible Study meets in the corner alcove immediately to your left as you enter the Fellowship Hall.

PARLOR CLASS - this Sunday, April 30, we will resume with a subject to be determined. (Got an idea? Now would be a good time to contact Adult Ed scheduler Scott Haring.)

NEW HYMNALS:

On Pentecost Sunday, our church will move to the new Glory to God hymnal, which is the newest Presbyterian Hymnal. It has our hymns from the two current hymnals plus 150 new hymns for us to try over time. There are limited copies of Glory to God in the church office if anyone would like to come and peruse them. The majority of our copies of the new hymnal were made possible by an individual gift but approximately the remaining hymnals are available to be purchased for $20 each (at cost) in honor or memory of someone. After our One Great Hour of Sharing offering season has concluded, we will distribute forms for this in the church bulletin. If you would like one now, see Melissa in the church office Mon-Thurs, 9-2 p.m.

Please send an email to Melissa, using the format below, with your information. If you need assistance in filling it out, she can help you with that too. Just call.

In honor/In memory of:  (60 character max.)

WOMEN'S CIRCLE:

will meet on Tuesday, May 9th, at 9:30 in the parlor/library.   All women are invited to come for fellowship and Bible study.   Jo Hammer will provide refreshments, but so far no one has offered to lead Lesson 8, "According to the Other Abrahamic Faiths" from the Bible study book, "Who is Jesus?: What a Difference a Lens Makes" by Judy Yates Silver. Anyone? Please let Martha Loer (512-447-8012 or
[email protected]) know if you will lead the lesson; a video disk is available to help prepare and/or show. You don't have to, but it always helps if everyone has read the lesson ahead of time along with the Background Scripture: Genesis 12:1-4; Matthew 1:1;  Galatians 3:6-7; 4:23-29, and Key Scripture: Galatians 4:23-29.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! to our former interns, Meagan Findeiss and Andrew Lemlyn.  Meagan will be a Lake Fellow (residency program) at Second Presbyterian in Indianapolis, IN and Andrew is doing the preaching and pastoral care at the First Presbyterian Church in Yorktown, TX.

Meagan has wrapped up her seminary education and call process and Andrew has completed seminary and was just received as an Inquirer under Mission Presbytery and our session!

FAITH BOOK GROUP:

Book group meets on THIRD Monday nights after yoga in the parlor from 7:30 - 9:00-ish.  Everyone is invited to join us for any or all of the following book discussions.

For our next meeting, May 15:
"Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl

Other titles for later in the year:
My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem
The Man Who Knew Infinity by Robert Kanigel

And maybe these:
Faithful Resistance by Rick Ufford-Chase
Waking Up White by Debby Irving
Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Biblical Literalism; a Gentile Heresy by John Spong

PICTORIAL DIRECTORY:

Check the narthex table if you still need a color pictorial directory. We are able to print a black & white version of the pictorial directory for anyone who wants one. Contact Melissa in the office and she can assist you.

2017 GRADUATES:

ANY 2017 GRADUATES? It's time to congratulate all our Faith folk who are passing some educational milestone-graduation from high school, college, trade school, getting a graduate degree, whatever! If you have someone in your family we should send a card to, please let Martha Loer know, and we'll have a card in the foyer for all of you to sign.   512-447-8012 or [email protected], but please put something in the subject line to let Martha know it's OK to open it.

YOU CAN GIVE ELECTRONICALLY
(but we still accept cash and checks as usual!).

How does it work? Scan the QR code below with your smartphone. There are no additional fees for you as the donor. However, as with all such transactions, an administrative fee of 1% will be deducted from your gift before it is delivered to our church. This one-time fee is for the reasonable and customary costs of operation of the Presbyterian Mission Exchange which hosts our electronic giving. If you pay by EFT option, this will be the full extent of the fees deducted. Gifts made using a credit or debit card will be assessed an additional fee of 2.598%+$0.26 (deducted automatically by our card processing vendor). Your full donation, which includes all the fees, is tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.

DRIVE A SENIOR SOUTH AU STIN :

has moved to a new location at Faith United Methodist Church, 2701 S. Lamar Blvd. - not up a long flight of stairs, and with plenty of parking! New Director, Stephanie Braddock, will be happy to welcome new volunteers to help South Austin seniors get to their medical appointments and other places. If you can help, please call DASSA at 512-445-5552, or speak with Martha Loer. More information is at [email protected].

This is one of the missions our church helps to support financially.    We used to have many volunteer drivers from Faith, but most have "aged out" and some need help themselves with getting places now, since they are no longer able to drive. If you drive, please think about volunteering to help our older neighbors. After you are approved and trained, you can select your time, person, pick-up and destination place to fit your schedule on an email listing of the needs.

We would love to have a new board member representing Faith Pres, too.   (It's not too confusing, having Faith Presbyterian and Faith Methodist both in South Austin, is it?)    Please contact DASSA directly or speak with Martha Loer if this a way you would like to serve.
