The Wave
May 10, 2019
Happy Friday! I hope you are enjoying this early summer weather. We have had a great week at TRCS! The focus has been on state testing. Our students have been doing an amazing job and we are so proud of them. They have been focused and prepared each and every day. We will continue our state testing through next week.

We want to thank our TRCS families for all of the appreciation showed toward our staff. It is has been greatly appreciated! We have such a great community. We are very lucky to be at TRCS. Thank you!

We had a great time at Mary S Young Park. Thank you to everybody that came out to support this great community service opportunity. It was hot, but we had a great time helping at our community park! A special thanks to SOLVE for setting up the park clean up!

Mindset thought of the week: As I saw our entire community work hard at the park today, I thought of a quote from historian Howard Zinn, “Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.” I hope we continue to serve our community as a school and as individuals. Sometimes it feels as though we are not making enough of a difference, but stay the course, because small acts can transform the world.

Have a great weekend and we will see everybody on Monday!

2019-2020 School Year Intentions
It is time to start thinking of next school year and we invite you to send in your intention forms for the 2019-2020 School Year! Click here for the form. These forms will be due to the TRCS office by Friday, May 24th at 4:00 pm. If we don't hear from you we will call you on Thursday, May 24th, to see if you received the intention form and are planning to return to TRCS next year. Please note, if you do not return your form by May 24th, your spot in the school will not be saved. We will be filling any openings from the lottery that is being held on May 31st @ 4:00.

As you consider next year, please keep in mind this is a choice that is family driven. We ask that these conversations happen at home. There can be undue pressure put on others and we want to keep our kids focused on their work - not on the drama that these intention forms can cause. Please be aware that your decision is confidential, and we need to know as we build enrollment numbers for the 2019-20 school year.

Additionally, we ask that when you make this choice and commitment, you stick to this decision. Any uncertainty or soft commitments for next year affects opportunities for new students and families at TRCS. We know these decisions can be difficult and a lot of thought goes into them. It is very important that everyone know that the decisions made affect more than just an individual and their family. It affects the community as a whole, too. We want to have a clear picture of who will be returning so we can give as many opportunities to those who wish to attend as possible. Thank you so much for your understanding and assistance as we prepare for next year!
Novice with Ms. Collins - Novice group has all been approved for an IP literature project! Students will continue to complete whatever they can with their lit projects, but with OSAS testing this next week, the progress may be minimal. We will pick up the pace again next week! Please make sure everyone gets to school on time and has a good breakfast to do their best work! Thank you!

Intermediate with Ms. Olson - The students received their rough drafts this week, and have been meticulously editing. The final drafts were due today. As students turned in their final drafts, they began brainstorming their creative writing projects. Next week will be state testing.

Advanced I with Ms. Bremont - Advanced I students spent the week immersed in their Creative Writing rough drafts, which were due on Thursday. They also started to brainstorm ideas for their Literature Projects, which they will begin next week.

Advanced II with Ms. Elston - Advanced II did a stellar job with testing this week. Because of that, most of the work done for IP was done outside of school or during learning studio. Students are turning in their finals and working on proposals for literature and creative writing projects.

5th Grade Math will be starting their IP math on Monday!

PBL with Ms. Staheli - PBL is working on completing final drafts this week and next, as well as beginning their creative writing and literature projects. 8th grade students have begun their literature book, The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho, while 7th grade students continue their novel, Boneshaker by Cherie Priest.

A note about IP boards : The standard display board is 36" x 48" and folds to 36" x 24". This is the board size we want students to have. Please just get the cardboard ones; the more expensive foam core boards are not necessary. Some students choose to make their own display boards and should discuss this with their IP teacher. We will let students know when they can bring those boards to school (June). We do not have space to store them prior to that time. It might be a good idea to purchase a board now, as selection can get limited at stores as we approach the end of the school year - just please store them at home until students are notified by their IP teacher to bring them into to school. Thank you!
