Staffing Updates

I am happy to announce Elizabeth Barbour as our new 4/5 Math teacher for next year. Liz has a Master of Teaching in Elementary Education and her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies, both from the University of Virginia. Liz has taught third and fourth-grade and is currently teaching math and science iin Fluvanna County. Liz is also heavily involved with the Junior League of Charlottesville and the Lab Rescue of Greater Richmond. We all welcome Liz to our school!

On a bittersweet note, many of you may have heard through the grapevine that Eliza Rogan, our art teacher, is having a baby! Such exciting news! Unfortunately for us, she has decided that she can not work a full-time schedule next year. Therefore, we have started a search for a new art teacher for next year. Eliza has really contributed so much in such a short time. We are sad to see her leave but of course, really excited for her growing family!

Lastly, we welcome back Chris Haske to the Peabody Family! Chris spent the better part of a decade as our art teacher before going on an adventure to Tanzania last year with his family. Chris and his family are moving back to the area and are excited to reconnect with old friends! Chris will be teaching some sections of Lower School technology and Middle School Arts and Enrichment classes next year. We are looking forward to Chris helping us integrate art and technology into some new "design thinking" curricula as we open our new Makerspace.
Music Concert Season!

As the end of the year approaches, so do the Peabody School Music Concerts! Our K-2 concert will take place on Tuesday, May 21st at 1:30pm in the Peabody gym. Our 3-5 concert will take place the same day, but in the evening, beginning at 6pm. Our middle school concert will feature performances from five Peabody ensembles: Choir, Beginning Band, Beginning Strings, Advanced Strings, and Advanced Band! This concert will be Thursday, May 23rd at 6pm at The Southern, on the Downtown Mall ( 103 1st St S, Charlottesville, VA 22902) . Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the Southern, and you can arrive as early as 5:30pm for that concert. All of these concerts are free, and everyone is welcome at any or all of them! We hope to see you there supporting our kids and the hard work they've done this year in music class.

Here are some details of the day:

The graduation and awards ceremony for 8th graders and Middle School award winners will take place in the Batten gym. Seating will start at 8:30AM and the ceremony will start at 9:00AM and last approximately an hour. The entire student body will be present to honor our 8th graders. Due to limited seating, this event is only attended by students, Grade 8 parents, their guests, and parents of award winners.

Starting at 10:30AM, we will also hold a promotion ceremony for the rest of our students, also in the Batten gym. This ceremony will be followed by classroom celebrations in your student's homeroom. There will be more information to come about that piece and parking for the event. All are welcome to this ceremony.
