JCA Today

 May 10, 2020
is a Mother's Day
like no other.

Because of poor health,
the pandemic and loneliness,
many older mothers and grandmothers
are sad and frightened today .

Older adults need us
now more than ever.
Please be a hero if you can.

Hungry seniors need food.
We must expand our delivery
of  meals   to them.

Frail and sick seniors need medical care.
We must continue to arrange
escorted rides  to doctors' offices
and other essential destinations.

Panicked families need guidance.
We must continue to help them
find vital resources .

Lonely, isolated elders need a lifeline,
and those with early-stage memory loss
need extraordinary help.
We must  comfort  them
while expanding our caregiver support.

Men and women who were once the backbone
of local community service
now  may need help themselves.
We must continue to  support
our 1,300 volunteers.
Many are in their 70's and 80's
so they are especially vulnerable  to
the devastation of COVID-19.

Now is the time
to be the hero that
vulnerable elders need.

Today is the day we honor mothers and grandmothers.
Today, too, we recall the essential lessons they taught us: to live lives of meaning and to leave the world a better place than the one into which we were born.

In their honor or in their loving memory, we ask that you make a gift to JCA today. Your gift will bring food and transport, hope and support to vulnerable seniors.

Our community's elders need us as never before.

For the first time in a quarter century, the Jewish Council for the Aging will not convene a Productive Aging Award Dinner (or even attempt an online event) this year. Instead, we are dedicating every effort and every dollar to essential community services.

Dozens of community heroes, including Sue and Howard Wilchns who chaired our Dinner Committee, already have donated or raised a total $200,000!  With your help, we will raise an additional $200,000 because vulnerable seniors need every dollar's worth of service we can provide.

God willing, we will celebrate our community's return to good health over a festive dinner next year. God willing, we will find ways to protect one another and care for one another this Mother's Day and over the weeks ahead.

Be well. Be safe. And please be a hero if you can.

Happy Mother's Day!
