Head of School Announcement

|
Dear Crossroads Academy Community,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Dan Morrissey as Crossroads Academy’s next Head of School, effective July 1, 2021. The Board’s decision to appoint Dan was based on the enthusiastic, unanimous recommendation from the Head of School Search Committee, and informed by a thoughtful and deliberate search process that included input from faculty, staff, parents, and friends of Crossroads, as well as extensive reference conversations.
Dan brings a strong record of success as a school leader, having served in a variety of teaching and school leadership roles in independent schools for over thirty years. Dan’s references consistently spoke of his ability to build strong, authentic relationships with students, their parents, and faculty. A Head of School who worked closely with Dan shared, “Dan’s greatest strength is his strong student-centered approach. Dan has a genuine interest in working with students, and he sees things through the lens of what’s best for kids. Kid’s pick up on that because it’s sincere.” A colleague noted, ““Dan always has a smile on his face. He will go the extra mile to know all the kids.” As the Search Committee members got to know Dan and learned about him through his colleagues, they recognized the strong match between his relational, positive, and warm style and the Crossroads community.
Dan’s experience makes him well-poised to serve Crossroads as a compelling ambassador, and to support and guide our students, families, teachers and staff. The Board is excited about working with Dan during his transition to Head of School, and is confident that his tenure at Crossroads will be marked by great success and a strong sense of community.
The Board recognizes with great appreciation the contributions of Acting Head of School Jean Behnke, who selflessly returned to Crossroads to lead the school and whose experience and calm, kind demeanor has brought so much positivity during a difficult time. We thank her for her tremendous leadership and service to the school!
The Crossroads community has been fortunate to have a highly dedicated, thoughtful group of individuals serving on the Search Committee. The Board extends our heartfelt thanks to our Search Committee and to our faculty, staff, parents, and friends for their active engagement and continued support of the school. Please join us in welcoming Dan to the Crossroads community. He is eager and enthusiastic about returning to New Hampshire, getting to know our community, and serving as Crossroads’ Head of School.
Sincerely,
David Kahn
Chair, Board of Trustees

Health Office Update
COMING SOON: Vaccines for Children Ages 12–15
It is expected that, by as early as this week, the FDA will authorize a two-dose Pfizer COVID vaccine for children 12-15 years old. The vaccine offers a level of immunity to this morbid virus. The task force encourages you to consider protecting your child, your family, and the community from illness and spread. In addition to being safe and effective, being fully vaccinated has potential conveniences for individuals. Those who are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic are not required to quarantine after close contact to a positive individual or after international or cruise travel.
We recognize, and appreciate, that this decision is a very personal decision for families; for that reason, Crossroads has chosen not to participate in the school vaccine clinic. Instead, we will assist parents of students in this age group by offering scheduling guidance and access information. When the vaccine is authorized and the NH DHHS/VT Department of Health open registration, you may schedule your child’s appointment:
· Here for New Hampshire residents, or
· Create an account here for Vermont residents.
Vaccine locations for children ages 12-18 will be held at:
· Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center: Saturday vaccine clinics through the end of June
· State-operated Fixed Site: former JC Penney building in West Lebanon
· Walgreens Pharmacy
· Walmart Pharmacy
Please consult with your child’s pediatrician if you have questions about timing or whether your child should receive the vaccine.
We are well on our way of forming our own umbrella of immunity at our school. We have come a long way from where we were at this time last year. All of our individual and collective efforts are inching us closer to having a more normal school year in 2021-2022.
Understanding the Pfizer Vaccine
The Pfizer vaccine series is a messenger RNA vaccine, also known as mRNA. This is the first COVID-19 vaccine authorized for use in children ages 12-15. COVID-19 mRNA vaccines give instructions for cells to make a piece of the virus’s “spike protein,” which the virus normally uses to enter cells in the body. After the protein piece is made, the cell breaks down the mRNA instructions and gets rid of them. The immune system recognizes that the spike protein doesn’t belong and begins making antibodies to protect against future infection.
