The Town of Oakville has released the latest draft of the town-initiated Official Plan Amendment (OPA) for Midtown Oakville.
The town invites residents and businesses to provide their input through an online survey and in-person engagement opportunities before the OPA is finalized for Council’s approval.
"Midtown growth will save the character of our neighbourhood streets where we live," Mayor Burton said in his monthly InsideHalton column.
"Midtown is planned for the provincially legislated minimum target of 20,600 people and jobs by 2031.
"Our engaged community has an opportunity to help shape this exciting and historic project. I encourage residents to provide their input through an online survey and in-person engagement opportunities. Together, we will make Midtown Oakville Ontario's most livable urban growth centre."

Town of Oakville set to host
2024 Centennial Cup

The Town of Oakville has been selected as the host of the 2024 Centennial Cup!
The Oakville Blades, a member of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), will host the Centennial Cup for the first time in team history from May 9-19, 2024, with all games taking place at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
Oakville will become the 11th community in Ontario to host the Centennial Cup.

The Town is holding an information session on the neighbourhood traffic safety program on May 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Town Hall .
The Neighbourhood Safety Program is an ongoing effort to ensure Oakville’s residential streets are safe for all road users.
The program will see the implementation of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras, and an increase in community safety zones and pedestrian crossovers, to address speeding and aggressive driving in Oakville’s residential neighbourhoods.

Mayor Burton joined the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Gary Carr, Halton Regional Chair at Appleby College for the school's Commemorative Service in Honour of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.
"It was a privilege to be part of this occasion and to witness the outstanding work of the students and staff of Appleby College," Mayor Burton said in conclusion to the event.
"I would like to take this opportunity to commend the school's leadership for their vision and commitment to providing a well-planned event in honour the of Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III,"

ChickQueen (266 Hays Blvd Unit #1) and Sandwich Society (146 Kerr St) celebrated their grand openings making them the newest businesses to call Oakville home.

Sheridan and CCTT partnering
to fill Ontario's skilled trades gap

To address the significant shortfall of skilled workers in Ontario, Sheridan College is partnering with the Canadian College of Technology and Trades (CCTT) on the delivery of two skilled trades programs.
The partnership will deliver on the shared priorities of the Ontario government and Sheridan to increase access to training in the skilled trades.
“Sheridan and CCTT are ideal partners. We have many complementary strengths. We have strong shared values and beliefs in the power of experiential, career-focused education to change people’s lives for the better,” said Dr. Janet Morrison, President and Vice Chancellor, Sheridan College.

Stephen Rowe, President of the Fare Share Food Bank in Oakville wrote a letter thanking donors for their support over the past year.
"You may not know that the Oakville Fare Share Food Bank is completely run by volunteer," Fare Share Food Bank President Stephen Rowe said.
"No one collects a paycheque, so you know your donation is going directly to the ones that need it. We are one of the only Food Banks in the GTA that is run solely by volunteers."
