I would like to wish all mothers a very Happy Mother's Day! Reflecting back on my own childhood, I believe being a mother can be very difficult at times, and we all need to thank our mothers. We have a Mother's Day special this Sunday, May 12 at the golf courses. Bring your mom and she will get her seat on the cart free, with a paid greens fee as well.

This year is the 100th Anniversary of Ellis Golf Course. The golf course has changed through the years, but it's still one of the most challenging and oldest courses in the state. Various events will be held this summer to celebrate the anniversary. Please watch for details.

Ellis Golf Course will be hosting the CR Mid Am on June 1 and 2. This is CRANDIC Tour event, so registration is through the CRANDIC Tour Association. To register for this event, visit the website:  www.crandictour.com. Let's hope for great weather so that all the players can enjoy the beautiful Ellis Golf Course.

Finally, our annual Grand Demo Day at Ellis Golf Course driving range is on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to get out and try all the latest equipment side-by-side. Vendors slated to be at the demo day this year are Callaway, Ping, Cobra, Cleveland, Wilson and Mizuno. (Mizuno will be taking appointments for fittings; call Ellis at 319-286-5589 to set up an appointment.) Tour Edge and Titleist clubs will also be available to try.

Hope you all have a great week and take sometime to enjoy the great game of golf.

Hit'em Straight,
Dave Roe
Interim Golf Operations Manager

Ellis Golf Course Celebrating 100 Years

Ellis Golf Course's first 9-hole course was opened for play in 1919, with the back nine added in 1948-49. The original designer was William Langford. This Cedar Rapids golf course is one of the oldest and most challenging courses in the state.

More details to come on this milestone.

Youth on Course

While it all starts with giving our members access to golf for $5 or less at more than 1,000 participating courses, it definitely doesn't end there. We set them up for success beyond the green through our caddie program, paid high school internships, and college scholarships.

10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

The companies represented this year are Ping, Mizuno, Callaway, Cobra, Titleist, Tour Edge, Wilson and Cleveland.  This is a great opportunity to test a new club or a whole set. The grill will be going; come out for lunch!

18.2,  Under this rule the time for a ball search (before the ball becomes lost) has been reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.

Reason for Change:
Limiting the period to 3 minutes is more consistent with the underlying principle that golf is to be played in a prompt and continuous way, without long pauses in play.

Knowing that the search time is limited to 3 minutes should encourage players to play a provisional ball when they believe there is a chance their ball may not be found.
