Healthcare costs are a mounting concern in today’s society, and we will discuss what today’s healthcare system looks like, as well as how the health care system offers support to seniors and the options that people have to manage their health care costs to preserve their assets.

DIY East Asian Lucky Bag Charm

Thursday, May 14, 4:00 PM

Main Library, 901 Civic Campus Way

2nd Floor Young Adult Room

Across East Asia, there is a long history of arranging strings into intricate patterns to make ornaments for various purposes. In China, early archeological evidence suggests that zhongguojie (中國結) began as an early form of recordkeeping before taking on more decorative purposes. In Korean traditional hanboks, the norigae (노리개) accessorizes the outfit and subtly communicates the status of the person. In Japan, hana-musubi (花結び) knots have been used by samurai to protect tea packages from poisoning. These days the knots are believed to bring luck, prosperity, and longevity -- this workshop will begin with a presentation about the history of decorative knots followed by instructions on how to make your own lucky bag charm. For ages 8+.
