Dear Scout Leaders & Parents,
As we start our ninth week "Scouting at Home", I wanted to communicate some highlights since I sent this April 13th letter, what's coming up in the weeks ahead, and what resources we have available to you.
Highlights Over the past four weeks, our staff and key volunteers have created dozens of learning opportunities and Scouting advancement activities that have had nearly 7,000 views. Here is a preview of the next two weeks of activities we have planned for you and your Scouts:
-- Tonight, Tuesday May 12: Home Repairs Merit Badge -- Tomorrow, Wednesday May 13: Scoutbook Training, recommended for all parents -- Thursday, May 14: Troop Committee Training via Zoom for all Troop committee members -- Friday, May 15: Roundtable via Zoom for all Scout parents and leaders -- Saturday, May 16:
ScoutFest
online gathering for all Scouts
-- Monday, May 18: Camp Info Meeting via Zoom for all parents interested in summer camps -- Tuesday, May 19: Microsoft Coding Basics for Cub Scouts ages 6-10 online -- Wednesday, May 20: Microsoft Design Your Own App for Scouts BSA ages 11-17 online
What's Coming Next? Scout Shop -- we are now open for curbside service. No in store sales yet. We know many Scouts have been busy earning advancements during this time at home, and we are anxious to get you those badges, derby cars, and uniform parts you might need. See shop info.
Summer Camps -- we have scheduled a parent information meeting open to everyone this coming Monday, May 18th at 5:30pm. Our camp staff and program leaders are putting together the latest information and will relay to you what we know at that point. See camp info.
Unit Meetings Unit gatherings such as pack and troop meetings still fall under the current "Safer at Home" orders and should continue to happen virtually through online formats such as Zoom, FaceTime, or Google Hangouts. Certain outdoor activities, such as service projects may take place, but must comply with local and state health orders and ensure proper personal protective equipment (PPE), and implement proper social distancing.
Resources Available The best place for daily updates, Scouting videos, merit badge offerings, Cub Scout meeting plans and more is on our dedicated Scouting at Home page.
Like you, I am eager to put the "outing" back in Scouting. Until then, subscribe to our weekly e-news, follow us on Facebook, and contact me -- or any of our staff -- by email. We are working from home, but as busy as ever, ready willing and able to assist you with any of your Scouting questions or needs.
Yours in Scouting, John Fullerton Scout Executive
