OUR MISSION:
St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear St. Rita School Parents,

Since the governor’s announcement that all Connecticut schools will be closed through the remainder of the school year, the teachers and I have been discussing how we will end the year. We have formulated two different graduation scenarios for our 8 th grade students and have sent that information to the graduates and their parents. We are still working out how to safely return all our technology devices and textbooks to school, a closing activity for our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students, summer learning packets, and a school year closure for all students and teachers. As we formulate plans for each of these I will keep you posted.

Please keep the following May and June dates in mind for planning purposes:

  • Friday, May 15 - School Spirit Day - wear your school uniform or school spirit wear
  • Thursday, May 21 - Ascension Thursday - Msgr. Joe will celebrate Mass for the students
  • Friday, May 22 - Classes will meet from 9:00-11:00 only so the teachers can have a faculty meeting.
  • Monday, May 25 - No School for the Memorial Day Holiday
  • Thursday, June 4 - Final day of on-line learning and retreat for the 8th grade class
  • Friday, June 5 - 8th grade class book and technology turn-in day from 10:00-2:00
  • Friday, June 5 - Final day of on-line classes for PreK 3 & PreK4
  • Tuesday, June 9 - Final Day of on-line classes for Kindergarten-grade 7
  • Wednesday, June 10 - Return all textbooks, library books and technology equipment to school from 10:00-2:00 for students in Prek3-Grade 7. Yearbooks, students’ school supplies and personal items, report cards and summer work packets will be available for pick-up.

In order to guarantee the health of our staff and campers, a decision has been made to cancel the SRS on-site summer camp program for June and July. We will be sending out a survey later this week to gather feedback about your interest in an on-line summer camp program, a possible August on-site camp, and/or an August on-line or on-site academic program for math, reading and writing. We appreciate your feedback and will let you know as soon as possible if we can safely host a summer program following all the health and safety guidelines recommended by the state.

As you may be aware, key budgetary decisions are directly tied to an estimated number of students expected to enroll in the coming year. For instance, enrollment numbers determine the appropriate number of teachers needed to provide the best educational experience for students, the number of textbooks that must be ordered and the space still available to prospective students at each grade level. With the closing of schools currently occurring within the Archdiocesan school network we have families looking to enroll for the 2020-2021 school year. We would like to give all our current families priority. We will be reaching out directly to those families who have yet to return the re-enrollment survey and ask that you respond to our request in a timely manner.

May is a month dedicated to our Blessed Mother, Mary. Throughout the month your family can honor Jesus’ mother and our mother, Mary by having a May crowning ceremony, praying the Rosary as a family, creating and decorating a Mary shrine, and/or singing hymns that honor the Blessed Mother. All of these traditional ways to honor Mary are shared with your children daily at St. Rita School and can now become part of your family traditions too.

Thank you for entrusting your child/children to our care. May God continue to bless and protect you and your family in the days and weeks to come.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
Principal
