As your Mayor, I’m proud to keep building a Vaughan that is welcoming, inclusive and full of opportunity for everyone. From new parks and community spaces to exciting amenities and investments that improve everyday life, there’s a lot happening across our city — and we’re just getting started.

Our team is working hard every day to deliver real results for residents: expanding services, supporting safer neighbourhoods, and celebrating the incredible people and communities that make Vaughan such a special place to call home.

We received an update from both York Regional Police and Toronto Police regarding the March 7 shooting at BAYT.

I want to thank York Regional Police and the Toronto Police Service for arresting an individual in connection with the March 7 shooting at BAYT.

Incidents like this-targeting places of worship, daycares and community spaces-are completely unacceptable.

I know the Jewish community has been deeply shaken by these acts, and it's important for me to state clearly: in Vaughan, you are not alone.

And we will do everything possible to make sure you are safe. The criminals who engage in this deplorable behaviour belong behind bars.

They must all be held accountable.

A new nature trail – located at 60 Promenade Cir. and spanning approximately 350 metres – is coming to the Ward 5 community! Construction of the trail will take place this summer and is expected to be completed later this year.



The City of Vaughan celebrated the upcoming transformation of the playground at Tammy Breda Park (181 Forest Fountain Dr.). The new playground is expected to open by summer 2027.



I’m pleased to share that a new destination for recreation and connection is coming to our city. Designed for year‑round enjoyment, Sports Village Park will offer a wide range of amenities for residents of all ages – including a playground, shaded gathering spaces, enhanced bocce courts and so much more. 



Today is Max Eisen Day in Vaughan.

And to honour his life and legacy, the City of Vaughan officially renamed York Hill District Park to Max Eisen Memorial Park.

Max Eisen was a Holocaust survivor, human rights champion and educator who spent his life ensuring the world never forgets.

He shared his story with thousands of Canadians until his passing in 2022 at the age of 93.

Today we made his legacy permanent.

Thank you to the Eisen family and to Councillor Gila Martow for making this dedication possible.

Vaughan is proud of its Jewish heritage.

We all share a responsibility to remember the lessons of history, reject hatred in all its forms, and stand firmly against antisemitism.

Max Eisen showed us what courage looks like. The least we can do is remember it.

We’re marking an exciting milestone for the City of Vaughan as we announce a future new Vaughan Animal Shelter. This project reflects our commitment to responsible growth and thoughtful city‑building, ensuring we continue to invest in facilities that enhance the quality of life for everyone in Vaughan – including the animals in our care. Once complete, the new shelter will provide much‑needed long‑term support for animal health and well‑being for years to come. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the City’s Planning and Infrastructure Development team and Councillor Chris Ainsworth for their continued support of this important project. I want to also recognize the Vaughan Animal Services staff for the compassionate work they do every day to care for animals in our community.

So happy to go to McDonald’s on McHappy Day this year! Every purchase supports the Ronald McDonald House Charities and families with sick children right here in our region. 



Congratulations to Dona Gallo, recipient of the 2026 Vaughan Women of Excellence Award. A dedicated community builder, a familiar face at so many Vaughan events and a true example of what it means to show up for your neighbours. Well deserved, Dona.



At the request of Cortellucci Hospice Vaughan, a flag was raised outside Vaughan City Hall to recognize National Hospice Palliative Care Week. A heartfelt thank you to the Cortellucci Hospice Vaughan team for all that you do for our community.

Five-hundred new trees and shrubs have found a home in Vaughan! Thank you to all the volunteers who came together for a community tree-planting event at Concord/Thornhill Regional Park.



On the 10th anniversary of the Italian Fallen Workers Memorial Project, we honoured the memory of the thousands of Italian workers who sacrificed so much to build a better future for their families and the communities they helped shape.

Happy to support this incredible project through the Spirit of Generosity to help contribute to the meaningful work they are doing. Congratulations to Marino, Paola and the entire committee for the countless hours and dedication they have put into this project.

COMMUNITY UPDATES

The City of Vaughan is continuously working to improve roads, parks, facilities and other essential infrastructure that keep Vaughan moving forward. These investments are made with your hard-earned tax dollars, and I am committed to using them responsibly and transparently.

I recognize that construction can sometimes cause disruptions. I want you to know what’s happening in your community, and what to expect during the process.

Below is a list of current projects underway that may cause a disruption in your routine.

Overnight paving on Jane Street

The City will be paving Jane Street at Norwood Avenue and Avro Road. Lane reductions and partial intersection closures will be required on Jane Street between Springside Road and Major Mackenzie Drive from May 11 to May 19, overnight. Details: vaughan.ca/cycling

Improvements are coming to the Nashville Greenway

Improvements are coming to the Nashville Greenway! Pedestrian lighting will be installed along the multi-use trail. To complete the work, parts of the trail between Stilton Ave. and Bellefond St. will be closed until June. More: vaughan.ca/DisruptionsAndClosures 

Improvements coming to Rosedale North Park

Improvements are coming to Rosedale North Park! Construction will begin in May and includes replacing the shade structure, concrete paving and a new picnic table. Work will be complete by July – areas of the park may be closed during this time. Details: vaughan.ca/parks

Watermain improvements on Doney Crescent

The City is undertaking watermain improvements on Doney Crescent. Work is expected to begin in late April and is anticipated to be completed by the end of August. The road will remain open during construction. Details: vaughan.ca/InfrastructureProjects

Road improvements planned for select streets in the Ward 5 community

Starting in May, the City of Vaughan will begin to restore select roads, curbs and sidewalks in the Ward 5 community as part of the 2026 Pavement Management Program. Work is anticipated to be completed in the fall. Learn more at vaughan.ca/PavementManagement

Important infrastructure improvements are coming to select roads in Ward 2, starting in May. Work includes restoring local roads and repairing curbs and sidewalks and is expected to be completed by this fall. More about the work: vaughan.ca/PavementManagement

Trail extension and new pedestrian bridge coming to Doctors McLean District Park

The next phase of work at Doctors McLean District Park includes extending the Riverwalk Neighbourhood Walk and building a new pedestrian bridge over the East Humber River. Work will begin in June and be complete in 2027. Learn more: vaughan.ca/DoctorsMcLean 

Infrastructure upgrades coming to Lindenshire Avenue

Improvements are coming to Lindenshire Avenue, from Stonebriar Drive to Simcoe Street, including upgrading the watermain, replacing streetlights, renewing sidewalks and more. Work will begin in the spring and be complete in July. Learn more: vaughan.ca/InfrastructureProjects
