Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce Named Finalist for National Award

Gainesville, FL -- (May 11, 2020) -- The Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce has been named a finalist for the 2020 Chamber of the Year award, presented by the Alexandria, Va.-based Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE).

The award, sponsored by MemberClicks, is the most prestigious and competitive recognition presented annually by the ACCE, an association of more than 9,000 professionals from 1,500 chambers of commerce, including 93 of the top 100 U.S. metro areas.

The Chamber of the Year award recognizes the leadership role chambers have in their communities. Those honored with the Chamber of the Year designation have demonstrated organizational strength and made an impact on key community priorities, such as education, transportation, economic prosperity and quality of life.

“Congratulations to the Chamber of the Year finalists. These chambers are among the most impactful organizations within the industry,” said ACCE President & CEO Sheree Anne Kelly. “These chambers are community champions, providing the catalytic leadership needed to help address their region’s greatest challenges.”

Chamber of the Year winners will be announced later this year.

"We at the Greater Gainesville Chamber are honored to be among the finalists for the prestigious ACCE Chamber of the Year Award," said President/CEO Eric Godet. "Our mission is to provide value to our members and to our community, and never more than during difficult times. Being recognized for these efforts, especially by our peers, is very gratifying to every member of our team."

Let Customers Know You Are Open for Business

As we navigate through the restart phases of our economy, guidelines will change. It is important to communicate with your customers the most current guidelines as established by our elected leaders. To assist you in this effort, we have created a simple template you may use to post at your business entrance to let your customers know the occupancy capacity of your business. As guidelines change, simply print a new sheet and fill in your new occupancy capacity. We hope this makes it easy for you to communicate with your customers. Your Chamber is committed to supporting your local businesses. Thank you for choosing to operate your business in our community. #SHOPGNV

GHDMC hosts virtual ribbon cutting for affordable housing developed for individuals with special needs

The Gainesville Housing Authority’s nonprofit subsidiary, Gainesville Housing Development and Management Corporation (GHDMC), worked with the City of Gainesville and Alachua County to develop two new housing units, with a third in progress, for those with special needs, such as veterans, elderly and disabled individuals. GHDMC hosted a virtual ribbon cutting to commemorate major milestones of this project, which commenced construction a year ago.

This is the first ribbon cutting in Gainesville since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. Social distancing was implemented and face masks were worn.
