Dear Parents of the Class of 2022,
I am writing to inform you about our upcoming College Planning Workshop, hosted by the Student Services Department, for our junior students on Wednesday, May 12th. This is our final meeting of the Junior Year College Planning series and will focus on ways students can advance their college planning over the summer months.
Wednesday, May 12th will be a regular attendance day and juniors will need to report their attendance on the form that will be sent that morning via email. All juniors will be expected to join their classmates for live sessions via Zoom from 8:15-11:15am, and additional resources will be provided at the conclusion of the program.
Here is the itinerary for the morning:
8:10am- All juniors log-in to Zoom meeting room
8:15am- An Inside Look at College Admissions presented by Ms. Megan
O’Rourke, Associate Dean of Admission at Providence College and Mr.
Mike Melinder, Senior Regional Admissions Counselor at The University
of Iowa
8:55am- Short break
9:00am- Approaching the College Essay presented by Ms. Veronica Hauad,
Deputy Director of Admission at the University of Chicago
10:15am- Break
10:30am- Lessons Learned: Reflections on the Transition to College
Panel Discussion featuring members of Trinity High School’s Class of
2019 and Class of 2020
11:15am- Wrap up
By participating in the workshop, juniors will have the opportunity to benefit from the advice and expertise offered by college admissions officers from three different universities, as well as recent Trinity graduates who successfully negotiated the admissions process. The trio of sessions will address the impact of the pandemic on college planning, testing, and the application process, offer advice on how to advance the college search over the summer, and provide perspective on the college essay.
Finally, I ask that you please follow up with your student about her completion of the College Planning Questionnaire. Students were asked to complete this survey by March, and several reminders have been sent. This questionnaire provides valuable information used for the counselor letter of recommendation. Once complete, I will share a link to schedule a one-on-one college planning meeting, which parents are welcome to join. If your student has not completed the questionnaire and would like to meet with me before the end of the year, she must complete the questionnaire by April 30th. The survey can be found on Naviance under “About Me> Surveys> Surveys Not Started”.
I am grateful for your partnership as your student advances her college search. This is an exciting, yet a bit stressful time, so it’s our hope that Blazers feel supported, informed, and encouraged as they chart a course toward college. As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
Many thanks,
Ms. Katie Granholm
College Counselor
