Mary Magdalene Church

Mary Magdalene Church is an inclusive church in the Catholic tradition where people from all faiths and backgrounds are welcome to the Lord’s table. We strive to live the values that Jesus taught, to honor and respect each individual and to share the joy of God’s unconditional love in our community and beyond.

Service Comes in Many Forms!

Greetings!

What is service? Service comes in many shapes and forms. At our recent Parish Community Forum, we heard powerful stories of how members of our community serve both Mary Magdalene Church and the wider Rochester area. Some volunteer in soup kitchens or at food distribution centers and some play music for hospital patients. Others attend prayer vigils for victims of violence, care for the church grounds, decorate our sanctuary, serve on the Board, or help prepare the church for worship on Sundays and welcome friends with a hot cup of coffee afterwards.

Service is woven into the fabric of who we are. Every act, whether seen or unseen, large or small, makes a real impact on the lives of others. And service doesn’t always happen in a group setting. For those who prefer quieter or more independent ways of giving back, there are many meaningful opportunities: writing notes of care, tending a garden bed, preparing a meal, knitting a prayer shawl, or offering behind‑the‑scenes help that strengthens our shared life.

Soon we’ll be inviting volunteers to represent our Mary Magdalene community in the Pride Parade and to help staff our table at the Pride Picnic. These are joyful, visible ways to share our welcome, affirmation, and support with our LGBTQ+ family and neighbors.

Keep an eye out for more details in the coming weeks. We will be looking for:

  • Parade participants — walking or riding as part of our group
  • Picnic volunteers — friendly faces to help host the Mary Magdalene Church vendor table.

However you offer your time, gifts, or presence, you are helping to build a more compassionate and connected community and we appreciate you!
