2026 American Legion Baseball Department Champions

The 2026 Department Legion Baseball champion is Dubuque County from the 2nd District. Dubuque County is sponsored by Cascade Post 528, Dubuque Post 6, Dyersville Post 137, Epworth Post 650 and Farley Post 656.

Dubuque County won the State Tournament by beating Moville Post 303 by a score of 11-0 and 14-4 in a best-of-three games series. The games were hosted by Moville Post 303 played at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa on May 2.

Drew Sullivan of the Dubuque County team was awarded the Earl H. Proctor & Esther J. Proctor Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Drew pitched a complete game shutout giving up 1 hit, 1 walk and had 9 strikeouts.

Dubuque County will play in the Region 6 (Central Plains) Regional Tournament Aug 5^-9 in Fargo, ND. Dubuque County won the East Area Tournament by beating last year’s State Champion Swisher Post 671 by a score of 11-0 and beating Hiawatha Post 735 by a score of 5-1.

A big thank you to Moville Post 303 for hosting the State tournament and thank you to all the volunteers and Legion Families that helped in the tournament.

National Convention

Louisville, KY

The National Convention will be August 28 - September 3, 2026, in Louisville, KY.

Delegates and Alternates were elected at the Spring District Conference. Those not elected as Delegates or Alternates can attend the National Convention as a guest.

Registration information, instructions, and forms are available on the Department website.

The deadline for National Convention registration is June 15.

SAL Members Eligible for NEF Grants

Members of the Sons of The American Legion are eligible to receive grants from The American Legion’s National Emergency Fund (NEF).

The NEF Trust Committee met May 4 during the Spring Meetings in Indianapolis to amend the trust to allow SAL members to apply for NEF grants.

While application forms and information on Legion.org are in the process of being updated to reflect the change, effective immediately, SAL members can apply for an NEF grant if they meet the necessary qualifications.

Similar to individual Legionnaires, SAL members may qualify for an NEF grant of up to $3,000 if:

• They have been displaced from their primary residence due to damage sustained during a declared natural disaster. If emergency/disaster shelters are available, and the applicant chooses not to stay at a shelter, their reason must be included in the application.
• The SAL member must be active at the time of the disaster and at the time of application.

NEF grants are not meant to replace or repair items, only to meet the most immediate needs (i.e., temporary housing, food, water, clothing, diapers, etc.) during the period immediately following the disaster. They also do not cover insurance compensation or monetary losses from a business, structures on your property (barns, tool sheds, etc.,) equipment or vehicles.

Consolidated Post Reports

The Consolidated Post Reports (CPR) have been mailed to each Post Adjutant on record. The Consolidated Post Report must be returned on the correct annual form to Department Headquarters or submitted through myLegion.org (preferred) before June 15 to be considered for Department Community Service and Children & Youth Awards.

Posts wishing to be considered for Community Service and Children & Youth Awards need to provide a narrative of their activities with their CPR submission. Narratives may be submitted separately if your post’s CPR is submitted electronically.

Awards will be presented during the Department Convention.
