Oakville responds to
legislative updates to
housing and growth planning

Oakville Council endorsed staff comments regarding updates and commentary on provincial legislation: Bills 109, 23 and 97 and the proposed Provincial Planning Statement 2023 at this week's Planning and Development Council meeting.
The report will be sent to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Halton Area MPPs, Halton Region, the City of Burlington, the Town of Halton Hills, the Town of Milton, Conservation Halton and Credit Valley Conservation.

meet to set path forward to
support auto sector growth

Chaired by Town of Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and hosted by City of Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, Members of the Ontario Auto Mayors Caucus met in Brampton’s Fire Station 203 for the first in-person meeting of the municipal advocacy group since 2019.
The group included representatives from 32 Ontario municipalities, Ontario’s OEMs, and automotive industry associations.
“The future of the automotive landscape is being forged in Ontario,” said Mayor Rob Burton, Chair of the Ontario Auto Mayors.
“Major investments made by industry in partnership with the Federal and Provincial governments are transforming the sector, and the Auto Mayors remain committed to working hand-in-hand with industry to support this exciting transformation.”

Auto Theft Prevention
Campaign Launches in Oakville

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has launched a new initiative to help combat auto thefts in the Town of Oakville.
Aftermarket GPS trackers contribute to the recovery of approximately 40% of stolen vehicles in Oakville, and police hope their broader use will reduce auto thefts and lead to even more recoveries.
Project Oxygen encourages residents to place third-party trackers (such as an Apple Air Tag, Tile, Galaxy Smart Tag or Atuvos) inside their vehicles.

Oakville Town Council is asking for some time to deal with the sweeping changes the Ontario Government has proposed to its Provincial Planning Statement and other measures aimed at increasing housing supply.
At a Planning and Development meeting on Monday (May 15), Council recommended, given the significant provincial legislative changes over the last few years, the province allow for a period of stability for municipalities to conform to the new planning regime.
The report will now be sent to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Halton Area MPPs, Halton Region, the City of Burlington, the Town of Halton Hills, the Town of Milton, Conservation Halton and Credit Valley Conservation.
