Asian Art Museum presents:
 Reimagining Traditions

Thursday, May 21, 2:00 PM

via Zoom

Many contemporary Asian and Asian American artists reach into the past, creating works that reimagine traditional subjects or techniques in new and unexpected contexts or combinations.Whether these traditions merge or collide, the process often yields unusual and thought-provoking works of extraordinary beauty and skill.

The Asian Art Museum Docent Program is generously supported by the Dhanam Foundation and Society for Asian Art. This program is made possible by the South San Francisco Friends of the Library.

There will be no in-person option this month. Please register and watch from home.

SSFPL Book Club - In Waves by AJ Dungo (GN)

Tuesday, May 19, 6:00 PM

Main Library, 901 Civic Campus Way

3rd Floor Adult Collaboration Room #1

In Waves by AJ Dungo is a deeply moving graphic novel that blends surfing history with a personal story of love and loss. Through its shifting timelines and muted, ocean-toned artwork, it captures how grief can feel as vast and unpredictable as the sea. The parallel stories of surf pioneers and Dungo’s relationship with his girlfriend give the book a reflective, meditative rhythm. Ultimately, it’s a quiet but powerful meditation on memory, healing, and finding solace in the water.
