Message from President
Carrie Pavis
|
Hello Beautiful Soropti Sisters,
Last week was a lot of fun delivering signs to everyone’s home, there were 5 of us delivering and our wonderful past president Bonnie Chapman came up with the idea. I am so glad it brought so many of you JOY. This has been quite a change for all of us, but I am glad we are coming up with ways to see each other and let all you know that we care and that you are loved and appreciated.
It looks like we will be ending our year on Zoom and this means what usually happens in June, will have to be done later on this summer or on Zoom. Billie’s installation will be merged with our BBQ/Picnic in August. We will meet with our new committees and start planning for next year on Zoom. On a positive note, it is so nice to see our senior members learning the technology and attending meetings.
Make sure you tune into our regular club meeting this Wednesday; we have the pleasure of our very own Dr. Gayle Hutchinson joining us. She will be giving us some insight on Chico State’s status due to Covid 19 and we will be able to ask questions and learn so much from her with all of her knowledge.
Committee Chairs, I need your end of the year reports, I only have a couple so far.

Governor's Lane's Message
|
Well, here we are, still trapped in this altered reality, but hopefully, you are all staying safe and well. It’s hard not to be anxious to get back to ‘normal’, but we need to keep safety in mind at all time. I know most of us want to be able to meet In person with our friends and SIA’s advised date to delay congregating was May 11. That has now come and gone and I’m sure we all realize that we need to be guided by our local jurisdictions as to when it is safe to meet and under what conditions. In the meantime, I can’t say enough about exploring the world of virtual meetings. While it’s never as good as seeing people in person, it really does help with the isolation! It can also help you accomplish the business of the club. I’ve heard that some clubs actually have more members attending ZOOM meetings than regular ones. It’s also an opportunity for rural AND urban clubs to explore meeting in another manor to avoid travel and time obstacles. We even have a few new virtual clubs in SIA that will be meeting only by the internet. Let’s find the silver lining in this pandemic!
Here are some items of note:
- Watch for a Special Eblast in the next few days, as your Region Board of Directors is meeting May 16 to make a decision on Conference/SDR. We will share that with you as soon as we have a decision and can work through the details.
- Our Region Live Your Dream Award winners have now received their checks! It couldn’t be better timing for them, I’m sure! We are hoping to hear from some of them soon in one manner or another!
- If you want to save your applications that are on the Live Your Dream Portal from SIA, you need to do so by June 1. If you need help with that, contact lydawards@soroptimist.org
- I received a letter this week from a business in the Marysville-Yuba City area commending SI Marysville Yuba City in their gestures to their community. This club is celebrating their 90th birthday this year! They had to cancel or postpone their party, but they are doing great team building even during this pandemic. Please read the letter they sent to their partners in the community and the response from one business. We need to keep our relationships strong in our communities!! We need each other! Letter from Club / Letter from Business
- As we near the start of a new club year, we need to update the region roster so we can all stay in communication. Please fill out and return this form by June 12.
I know that these are unsettling and worrisome times, but as Soroptimists we are always looking for solutions. We are being forced to look at things in a different light these days and come up with creative new ways to operate. We have to adapt! Things are also changing for the very population that we seek to help! However, things may be getting much worse for them if they are in difficult home situations. Women and Girls need us more now than ever! Keep your enthusiasm for the change that we can help facilitate in their lives through our work! We will come back and my drive will be stronger than ever! I hope yours will be too!
Stay safe (and sane)
Governor Lane

This project will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Soroptimist. Our organization was started by a dedicated group of women who came together to network and help improve the lives of women and girls.
In honor of our founding sisters and to celebrate our SI Chico Club history, we would like to do a club legacy project that will benefit our local community for years to come. This project will be a joint project starting during President Billie’s club year and continuing through President Sara's club year.
Billie and Sara are compiling a list of suggestions for our SI Chico Club Legacy Project. They would like to encourage all club members to share their suggestions through this survey. If you have an idea how our club could make a lasting impact on our local community through our 100 Year Legacy Project please submit it.
With Gratitude,
Billie and Sara

As you may have suspected, The 2020 Home and Garden Show will not be taking place this month as originally planned. Instead,
it has been rescheduled to the new dates of July 25 and July 26
. Our obligation and schedule will remain the same, however we will start over with a new sign-up genius. We realize it's difficult to know what our plans will be in July, but please go ahead and sign up and each of us can easily change our chosen shift if needed at a later date.
Thank-you everyone!
