Cheers erupted in the Texas House as lawmakers hit the clock on a major legislative deadline, ending a frenzied week by sending hundreds of House bills to the shredder. After 14 hours of debate last Thursday, the House had passed just over 200 of the more than 400 bills on its agenda before running out of time. The rest were declared dead—unless revived later by being attached to a related, surviving measure or a Senate companion bill.
As midnight neared, the House floor grew chaotic. Lawmakers shouted “Vote!” to speed things along, and Speaker Dustin Burrows kept proceedings moving at a rapid pace. For many staffers and legislators, the night marked the end of months of work.
The Texas Propane Gas Association will be meeting with the TPGA Legislative, Technical & Standards Committee and Board over the next two days to review and report which industry-related bills cleared the legislative hurdle.
Many Republican-backed proposals failed to advance, sparking frustration among members who felt leadership didn’t prioritize key agenda items.
