High School Student Receives Congressional Award Gold Medal | |
The Board of Supervisors recognized Ethan Logue, a senior at Monte Vista High School in Danville, for receiving the Congressional Award Gold Medal. The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ highest honor for young Americans, and honors recipients for their commitment to voluntary public service and physical fitness, only about 500 Congressional Award Gold Medals are earned each year across the entire United States.
Ethan has volunteered over 400 hours within our County, the majority of which dedicated to fighting the growing hunger crisis at the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano County. Ethan served hundreds of families, volunteering in almost every neighborhood in the County where the Food Bank trucks distribute food.
Ethan is a competitive fencer with USA Fencing, currently ranked in the top 100 fencers in the nation and 13th in California in his age division.

Bollinger Canyon/Iron Horse Trail Overcrossing Groundbreaking Ceremony | |
The City of San Ramon held a brief ceremony on May 18th, to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Iron Horse Trail Overcrossing at Bollinger Canyon Road.
The purpose of the Iron Horse Trail Overcrossings Project is:
- To improve safety by eliminating conflicts between pedestrians/bicycles and vehicles;
- Improve vehicular traffic flow by removing the at-grade crossings;
- Eliminate unsafe crossing maneuvers by pedestrians and bicyclists,
- Encourages pedestrian and bicycle usage along the Iron Horse Trail; and
- Increase trail use by nearby schools by improving safety at the Bollinger Canyon Road and Crow Canyon Road crossings.

2023 Weed Abatement Deadlines | |
As fire season grows near, property owners are responsible for managing their vegetation to create defensible space to meet their fire district's requirements. See below for weed abatement deadlines in your area.
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District has established minimum standards for weed abatement. Abatement should be completed by June 4th. District 2 cities in ConFire's area include Lafayette, Walnut Creek, and parts of Alamo. Contra Costa Consolidated Fire

Lafayette Liaison Meetings Have Gone Hybrid | |
The Lafayette Liaison meeting is both virtual and in-person. If you are interested in current happenings in Lafayette, please join us for a Liaison Meeting on Monday, May 22, at 8AM. The "live" meeting will be held at Supervisor Andersen's Lafayette office conference room, located at 3338 Mt. Diablo Blvd., or by Zoom, by clicking the link below. The meetings are generally held on the the 4th Monday of each month, unless it falls on a holiday.

The Association of Indo Americans hosted the Maya Bazaar at Bishop Ranch on Saturday, May 13th.
The organization, and the cultural groups came together, for a fun-filled Indian Summer Festival.
This year’s event highlighted Indian culture with a Bollywood concert, fashion show, and vibrant dances. Artisan booths with outstanding food, jewelry, and clothing, and other cultural handicrafts, gave the opportunity for the community to engage in the festivities.

Reminder! Contra Costa County Public Works
Road Work on Highland Road in the
Tassajara Valley - Ends May 25th

The Contra Costa County Public Works Department will perform road grinding and paving work on Highland Road, between Camino Tassajara and Manning Road through Thursday, May 25, 2023, barring unforeseen circumstances. The work will take place from 8:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, weather permitting. A detour will be in place to direct traffic to Collier Canyon Road, to Carneal Road to Manning Road, and back to Highland Road. A pilot car will direct traffic through the work area, as needed. Drivers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes. | |

Community Advisory Board on Public Safety Realignment | |
The Community Advisory Board (CAB) on Public Safety Realignment was established by the Community Corrections Partnership (CCP) Executive Committee in December 2012 to provide input on community needs and encourage outcomes that are consistent with the County's Reentry Strategic Plan.
The Community Advisory Board includes anyone interested in public safety issues and members with expertise in:
- domestic violence prevention
- workforce development
- behavioral health issues
- post-release reentry services
- adult education within a correctional setting
- services for reentering women
- criminal and drug court
- crime survivors
- law and policy related to issues of the formerly incarcerated

District 2 Seat Term is expiring. To advise the Board of Supervisors in collaboration with the Alcohol and Other Drugs Services, providing input and recommendations as they pertain to alcohol and other drugs prevention, intervention, and treatment services.
Airport Land Use Commission
The County is seeking individuals who are interested in serving on Contra Costa County’s Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC) as a Member-At-Large (one vacancy). The Commission’s role and responsibilities are to:
- Formulate land use policies that restrict the development of lands to ensure compatibility with planned operations of public use airports;
- Review the general plans of local agencies for consistency with the Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan; and
- Review proposed modification to the airport master plans for consistency with the Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan.
Commission members are expected to attend at least one meeting a month. Regular meetings of the ALUC are held on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Zoning Administrator Meeting Room, 30 Muir Road, Martinez, CA 94553. Background study, occasional field trips, and extra meetings are sometimes necessary. Members shall serve without compensation. During the term of office, each member shall reside or work in Contra Costa County.
There are seven members of the ALUC. The current vacancy is for one commissioner which is an At-Large position representing the public and appointed by the other six members of the Commission. Appointed members are required to comply with the Conflict-of-Interest reporting requirements in State law. The term of office of each member is four years, and until the appointment and qualification of their successor.

Measure X Community Advisory Body - Measure X Information
An individual who represents broad and diverse voices and perspectives is needed to fill the District 2 Alternate Seat. To be considered for this seat, candidates must either live or work in District 2. The Measure X Community Advisory Board currently meets monthly. Please contact our office at (925) 655-2300 if you are interested in applying.
Measure X is a countywide 20-year, ½ cent sales tax approved by Contra Costa County voters on November 3, 2020. Collection of the tax began on April 1, 2021. The ballot measure language stated that the intent of Measure X is “to keep Contra Costa’s regional hospital open and staffed; fund community health centers, emergency response; support crucial safety-net services; invest in early childhood services; protect vulnerable populations; and for other essential county services.”
