BUILD BRIDGES OF UNDERSTANDING


As April comes to an end, two holidays are celebrated -- Passover and Orthodox Easter. The ISB family sends its well wishes to our friends from the Jewish and Christian communities during this special time.

April is National Arab-American Heritage Month and the ISB congratulates the Alif Institute on their very successful 11th Annual Atlanta Arab Festival.  Please see our pictures of ISB at the Atlanta Arab Festival below!

Last Call for Nominations for "40 Under 40 Georgia Muslims!"

Thank you to all who submitted nominations for the ISB's first 40 Under 40 Initiative.  This program is under the "Continuing the Legacy and Changing the Narrative" initiative which started with 100 Influential Georgia Muslims and Making the Difference essay contest.  This is your last call to nominate yourself, a colleague, family member or friend for the ISB's 2016 "40 Under 40 Georgia Muslims!" T he "40 Under 40 Georgia Muslims" recognizes individuals for their work that makes an impact on the community at large.  The nomination deadline is May 1st, 2016. Amin Tomeh Presents to  B'nai B'rith Youth Organization 2016 Mega Kallah Interfaith Panel!



On April 16th, Amin Tomeh travelled to Talladega, Alabama to participate on an  interfaith   panel  at the BBYO (B'nai B'rith Youth Organization)  2016   Mega   Kallah . The Atlanta Council has five annual conventions, each with a different focus bringing approximately 90 - 260 participants for each weekend.  Mega - Kallah 's focus is social action, community service, Judaism and  interfaith.  The convention  included teens from South Carolina, Tennessee, New Orleans, Alabama, and the rest of Georgia.

Tomeh served on a panel and was joined by Rabbi Brian Glusman, Reverend Cory Brown, Reverend Dr. Gonia, and Rabbi Ira Dounn.  The questions were insightful and centered around learning about the three represented faiths. " It was a delightful experience and all feedback received showed that the ISB added tremendous value to this great gathering of Jewish  youth," said Tomeh.
ISB Represented on "He Named Me Malala" Panel Discussion!

On March 31st, Noor Abbady represented the ISB for a "He Named Me Malala" movie screening and panel discussion. The panel and discussion were presented by the Muslim American Leadership Alliance  with the World Affairs Council of Atlanta, and in collaboration with Georgia State University. The panelists discussed  how we can create positive change and forward the education equality movement that Malala is continuously fighting for. Noor Abbady presented alongside  Zainab Khan of Muslim American Leadership Alliance and Karin Ryan of the  Carters Center. 

Khalifa Spoke at  Picnic for Peace!

Soumaya Khalifa, ISB Executive Director, spoke at Johns Creek High School's first annual event, Picnic for Peace. The aim of the event was to  spread a message of peace and harmony through collaboration and understanding among the the Johns Creek population and the Georgia community at large, and to show solidarity with victims of violence worldwide.

Khalifa represented the Islamic faith and joined other religious community leaders. Khalifa spoke   about the importance of justice  and  peace. She  spoke  about  minimizing  stereotypes and challenged the audience and  herself  to get to know two new people this  week . ISB congratulates Johns Creek High School and this much needed initiative.
