SPOTLIGHT ON AMERICAN SPOON
Opening Day for 2018 is this Friday, May 4th!

American Spoon has been in business since 1982Since then, we've been preserving fruit in our Petoskey Michigan kitchen.  After all these  years, our crew of skilled cooks still prepares fruits by hand and cooks them with care in small-batch copper kettles.  We work directly with a dedicated group of Michigan farmers and foragers who provide the varieties of fruits we love, varieties bred over generations specifically for their unparalleled taste and unique character.  Our small company exists to find, capture, and preserve flavors you won't find anywhere else.

Some of our customer favorites and best selling products are our Sour Cherry Preserves loaded with Michigan's most famous Montmorency tart cherries, our Bloody Mary Mix with hand-grated horseradish and fresh dill and our Salted Maple Carmel with simple maple-y sweetness.

In Store Special: Purchase 12 jars, receive the 13th jar FREE!  Purchase 6 jars and get the 7th jar at 1/2 price. In store special is good all year long.
Shipping Special: 12 or more jars delivered to one address and the shipping is FREE. Expires June 25, 2018.

MDOT US 31 ROAD PROJECT OPEN HOUSE MAY 15
Lane Conversion (Road Diet) Within A Road Improvement Project
Tuesday, May 15 from 4:00 - 6:00pm
City of Charlevoix Council Chambers
210 State Street

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is hosting a drop-in open house to discuss a lane conversion (road diet) within a road improvement project on US 31 from Barnard Road to the Mercer Road area (excluding the bridge) in the City of Charlevoix.

The open house will have the road project plans displayed for review with the opportunity for residents, commuters, organizations, agencies, and business owners to ask questions and provide comments to MDOT staff.

Project Information:
This road improvement project consists of a hot mix asphalt mill and overlay with safety and pavement marking improvements that will change the four-lane section to a three-lane section.  The lane conversion (road diet) will improve safety by maintaining one lane in each direction with the addition of a center left turn lane.  There will also be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramp upgrades.  The project is expected to begin in early August and be completed by the middle of November.

For more information, please contact James Lake, MDOT office of Communications, 906.250.0993 or lakejl@michigan.gov

DATA REVEAL & FORUM ON FINANCIAL HARDSHIP IN AMERICA
The United Way
ALICEĀ® Project, a grassroots movement inspired by United  Ways in 18 states, will unveil national data that upends the rosy economic picture by conventional unemployment and jobs reports.  The Project developed a series of groundbreaking measurements that quantify the size of who in America's workforce is struggling financially, and the reasons why.  United  Ways have coined the term ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) to describe the staggering number of essential American workers who are unable to afford the rising cost of necessities, as revealed by the new data.  Presenters will demonstrate how policy makers, business leaders and nonprofits are collaborating on innovative solutions that fight to reduce the ranks of financially fragile working households and secure America's future economic stability. More

DISH NETWORK DROPS WFQX LOCAL 32
WFQX, Local 32/Cadillac Telecasting Company announced that Dish Network has decided to discontinue service to its subscribers, no longer airing WFQX LOCAL 32 effective April 27, 2018.

Alex Bolea, owner of Cadillac Telecasting, offered the following statement regarding Local 32 being disconnected from Dish Network.  "Dish charges its customers for the value of Local 32's programming.  They want to keep that money rather than pay a fair price for the programming.  We hope to continue to be able to provide Northern Michigan with the best local news, sports, and entertainment.  It takes hard work, long hours and significant investment to produce a product that makes an impact in people's lives.
