From the Principal's Desk
This week our students have started a recycling project in coordination with Mrs. Kim O’Rourke, the City of Middletown recycling coordinator. We will be collecting plastic bags which will be recycled separately from those materials that you may normally recycle at home. We are all excited about St. John Paul II Regional Catholic School being able to support our community in this way, which is so important to the protection of our environment. Our school will be a collection site for plastic bags and there will be prizes for the class that collects the most bags between May 16
th and May 31
I need your support in another way to help our school be more visible in our community. I always hear that today’s students do not have a sense of history or why we celebrate certain days as Americans. I know this not to be true of our JPII students. This year we will be marching in the Middletown Memorial Day Parade. I cannot think of a better way for our students to remember and honor those men and women of the armed forces who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Middletown is the home of the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery and Veterans Park. It will be great for our school to participate with all the city community groups that will be marching.
We will be marching in Division II which will assemble on Pease Avenue starting at Spring St. Commencing at 9:30 AM o Monday, May 27
th. I would recommend that you drop off your child t the assembly area and park at JPII. All marching units need to be in place at 10:00 AM and the parade kicks off at 10:30 AM. The parade route is down Main Street and ends at the south green. All parents are welcome to march with our unit. I look forward for your support and participation in this worthy endeavor. If you have any questions regarding the parade please contact me. Thank you.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Spring weekend and may God continue to bless you and your families.
