Welcome to the first edition of Focus on Standards, the NISO Library Standards Alliance (LSA) member newsletter. This newsletter will cover NISO news, events, and activities for our members. It will be emailed each January, May, and September.

I'm DeVonne Parks, NISO Member Services and Engagement Manager. NISO welcomes you as a member and thanks you for your support and participation in our activities. Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at any time either by phone at 301.654.2512 or by email at dparks@niso.org.

We invite you to get involved with NISO by

- Joining a NISO committee or working group
- Commenting on draft NISO standards and Recommended   Practices
- Participating in an ISO/TC 46 standard working group
- Presenting your institution's work at a NISO educational
  event

For more information, please visit http://www.niso.org/participate

Have a wonderful summer break! Our next issue will be available in September 2016.

NISOEvents
NISO Events
NISO offers an array of educational events throughout the year.

We present monthly webinars that you can view as part of your member benefits. There is no need to register for these events as the log-in instructions are automatically emailed the Friday before the webinar directly to the webinar contact we have on file. There will be plenty of promotions to remind you of the event.

There are fees associated with each webinar; however, if you are an LSA member there is no need to pay anything more.

NISO offers virtual conferences that are six hour long conferences held online, with time allotted for an offline lunch and an afternoon break for participants. The longer length allows the depth of coverage of a conference coupled with the convenience of a webinar.

There are fees associated with the virtual conferences for members, but the member rate is available to all LSA members.

NISO Training Thursday webinars, which we have made available based on feedback from LSA members, offer technical follow-up to selected virtual conference topics. Members may pay for these events only or purchase them as a package that includes the accompanying virtual conference.

NISO's Open Teleconferences, an ongoing series of phone calls, are held on the second (or occasionally the third) Monday of each month from 3:00-4:00 P.M. NISO's teleconferences keep the community apprised of our activities; they also provide an opportunity for you to give feedback on our activities or make suggestions about new activities in which we should engage. The calls are free and anyone is welcome to participate in the conversation (there is no need to register).

NISO Working Group Connections LIVE!
NISO's Working Groups are an integral part of advancing best practices and information standards in the library community. The groups are comprised of volunteers from the library, vendor, and publisher fields who have a specific interest in protocols, initiatives, and related projects. These webinars, which discuss efforts in which the groups are engaged, are free and open to all. Registration is managed through an RSVP survey. There is no limit to attendance, and information on how to participate is listed on the event page.

Should you have suggestions on topics and/or speakers for NISO events, please contact the NISO office at nisohq@niso.org.

ISQ
Information Standards Quarterly Goes Online
NISO has decided on an exciting change to Information Standards Quarterly ( ISQ) that you'll see this year: we are switching to online, open-access distribution of the journal. We are therefore no longer accepting 2016 renewals, and any payments that have been made in advance for 2016 renewals will be returned.

At the moment we are working on a combined issue 3 and 4 of volume 27 (2015) of ISQ; that issue will be the last that subscribers will receive in print.

Should you have any questions, please contact Henrietta Verma, Sr. Communications Specialist at hverma@niso.org.

Update Profile
If you need to make any changes to your institutional profile such as new primary contact, webinar contact, or billing contact, or billing address, please email DeVonne Parks with the new information, and use the subject line "Update Profile."
