GrayStreet Partners under contract for Hearst's Light building parcels

Local real estate investment group GrayStreet Partners is filling in its checkerboard of downtown San Antonio properties with yet another buy - Hearst Corporation's  Light building portfolio.

The 3.13-acre portfolio includes the five-story 1930s building at 420 Broadway, adjacent parking lot and former press room building, as well as the 300-block of North Alamo.

Rackspace profit margin rebounds in first quarter of 2016, tempered by
tech startup sale

Rackspace Hosting Inc., a San Antonio-based managed cloud provider reported an uptick in net income of more than 77 percent during the first quarter of 2016, but that was swayed by the one-time sale of a technology startup from the company's portfolio.

Rackspace (NYSE: RAX) had net income of nearly $49 million during the first quarter compared to about $28 million during the same timeframe last year. But the divestment of JungleDisk LLC - a  secure cloud backup startup once acquired by Rackspace in 2008- was reported as an income gain of $24.5 million, according to the company's balance sheet.

Texas lawmakers pledge to take up Uber, Lyft fight

With Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc. shutting down in Austin - at least for now - following the defeat of Proposition 1, a group of conservative legislators led by Sen. Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown) hope to overturn that vote when the Texas Legislature convenes in 2017.

On Sunday, several state lawmakers and top conservative politicians expressed their dismay on social media  about the resounding defeat the day before of Prop. 1 , which was heavily backed by Uber and Lyft and would have transformed the city's rules for transportation network companies.

WORKING MOMS: Making it work better

Here's a good Mother's Day gift: A different kind of work week. Subsidies for child care. Counseling and support to help working mom entrepreneurs manage a work/life balance.

That's just some recommendations from the  Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to eliminate the "double whammy" facing working mothers who want to grow businesses while raising a family.
