I'm DeVonne Parks, NISO Member Engagement Manager. NISO welcomes you as a member and thanks you for your support and participation in our activities. Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at any time either by phone at

- Comment on draft NISO standards and Recommended Practices
- Participate in an ISO/TC 46 standard working group

Have a wonderful summer! Our next issue will be available in September 2016.

As a Voting member, you may purchase access to NISO's educational events, which are offered at a discounted member rate throughout the year.
We offer monthly webinars that you can view at a discounted rate as a part of your member benefits (subscription packages are also available). You must register for these events and the log-in instructions are automatically emailed the Friday before the webinar to the person who registered. There will be plenty of promotions to remind you of the event.
NISO also provides
virtual conferences at a discount to members. These are six hour online events that offer the depth of coverage of a conference coupled with the convenience of a webinar. The schedule allows for an offline lunch and an afternoon break for participants.
NISO
Training Thursday webinars, which we have made available based on feedback from LSA (Library Standards Alliance) members, offer technical follow-up to selected
virtual conference topics. Members may pay for these events only, or purchase them as a package that includes the accompanying virtual conference.
NISO's Open Teleconferences, an ongoing series of phone calls, are held on the second (or occasionally the third) Monday of each month from 3:00-4:00 P.M, Eastern time. NISO's teleconferences keep the community apprised of our activities; they also provide an opportunity for you to give feedback on our activities or make suggestions about new activities in which we should engage. The calls are free and anyone is welcome to participate in the conversation (there is no need to register).
NISO's Working Groups are an integral part of advancing best practices and information standards in the library community. The groups are comprised of volunteers from the library, vendor, and publisher fields who have a specific interest in protocols, initiatives, and related projects. These webinars, which discuss efforts in which the groups are engaged, are free and open to all. Registration is managed through an RSVP survey. There is no limit to attendance, and information on how to participate is listed on the event page.
Should you have suggestions for topics and/or speakers for NISO events, please contact our office at
nisohq@niso.org.

Systematic Review of ISO 11940-2:2007 Information and documentation - Transliteration of Thai characters into Latin characters Part 2: Simplified transcription of Thai language
This part of ISO 11940 provides a specification for the conversion of Thai characters (or the transliteration of Thai obtained from ISO 11940:1998, written here ) into a broad phonetic transcription. The results of the application of the rules of this part of ISO 11940 are written here [in italics between square brackets]. Since some vowels in Thai are written before the consonant which they follow in speech, text needs to be processed before the conversion takes place.
This ballot closes on Friday, June 3, 2016.
This ballot closes on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
- New Work Item Proposal: ISO 21047 (ISTC)
This International Standard specifies the International Standard Text Code (ISTC) which is applicable to any textual work, whenever there is an intention to produce such a textual work in the form of one or more manifestations. It provides an identification data element for applications that record and exchange information about textual works and related manifestations. For example, the ISTC can be used for the purposes of collocating subsequent manifestations of the same textual work or derivations of the same textual work in applications involving electronic rights administration or information retrieval.
This ballot closes on Friday, July 8, 2016.

Information Standards Quarterly Goes Online
|
NISO has decided on an exciting change to
Information Standards Quarterly (
ISQ) that you'll see this year: we are switching to online, open-access distribution of the journal. We are therefore no longer accepting 2016 renewals, and any payments that have been made in advance for 2016 renewals will be returned.
At the moment we are working on a combined issue 3 and 4 of volume 27 (2015) of ISQ; that issue will be the last that subscribers will receive in print.
Should you have any questions, please contact Henrietta Verma, Sr. Communications Specialist at hverma@niso.org.

If you need to make any changes to your institutional profile such as new primary and/or secondary contact, billing contact, or billing address, please email
DeVonne Parks with the new information, and use the subject line "Update Profile."
