Wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring.

Passing Storm
Passing Storm   28" x 40"   $24,000
It's been a while since my last newsletter.

For the first time in my art life I went through an extended period of feeling absolutely hopeless - not simply low or depressed, but hopeless.

The thought that we are living in such a graceless age - where celebrity, narcissism, social media and the outrageous reign supreme, had really gotten hold of me.

What real difference does truth, beauty and authenticity really make?

I was in a hole and I was in deep.
So I loaded my truck and got out of my studio filled with questions, and headed North - very North, almost to the Canadian border.

The land is austere and the weather harsh.
There Mother Nature has a smoker's cough and callused hands - and little patience for whiny self-reflection.
That's the province of the comfortable.
The intensity of simply living there forces a direct confrontation with the most basic elements of existence.

In the end there were no profound answers for me.
Only Mother Nature saying-
"Well.. get on with it-
and stand up straight"

and it was perfect.
