A  newsletter of the Great Plains Food Bank
One Day at a Time
Each day David faces struggles and responsibilities. Like many needing food assistance, his family has endured trying times where a steady food source is difficult to come by. David has been taking care of both his wife, who is disabled, and his kids. The commitment to family only allows him to work part-time. "It would make it really tough on me (not having access to the food pantry)," he said. "It helps tremendously to keep food in the family. If I was going to buy it in the store, I just can't afford the prices they charge in the store so I would have to go buy discount." For more stories like David's, join us for our video series, "Hunger in Rural North Dakota" coming later in May.

This is SNAP
Watch as Jared Bernstein of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities explains why the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the program that most efficiently and effectively meets the needs of low-income families.
Learn more about the SNAP program and how the Great Plains Food Bank is working to help those in need.

Fight Hunger Spark Change
Happening now through May 15, the Great Plains Food Bank is teaming up with Walmart and Feeding America as they Fight Hunger Spark Change. For every participating product purchased at Walmart now through May 15, the manufacturer will donate nine cents to Feeding America - enough to secure one meal on behalf of local food banks. The Great Plains Food Bank is a proud member of Feeding America, the nation's top hunger-relief charity. Walmart has the goal of donating $3 million to Feeding America through the Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign this year.
