A Word From The Board- Sacha Urban

The Women's Business Council of the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce is a fun, effective and rewarding way to connect with other business members (both, men and women) and "lunch & learn" at the same time.  Every fourth Thursday of the month (except June: Paddleboat and December: Holiday Party) you can expect to receive a quality presentation on relevant topics such as money management, developing people skills, learn about the history of St. Charles or be inspired by the transformative, innovative and creative spirit that permeates our recent tour of Clarke.

I have personally made solid business connections as well as personal friendships through the WBC group.  As a fundraiser for TriCity Family Services, I am especially touched by the generosity and compassion of the women I encounter; the WBC is committed to support local not for profits by donating the proceeds of the raffles to a local charity (3 are chosen per year) which will receive 3 month's worth of the proceeds.  This trimester's proceeds will go to Project Mobility, whose mission it is to make a positive difference in the lives of children, adults and wounded soldiers with disabilities. They provide the services, resources, and equipment needed to promote better health, independence, and the freedom of mobility through adaptive cycling.

We hope you'll join us for lunch on May 25 th when we meet at the Finery & Blacksmith Bar in St. Charles to learn more about the XYZ Generation (and of course, great food!).  AND: you do NOT have to be female to attend.

YPC Luncheon- Leading at Any Level
St. Charles Chamber Boardroom, 216 S Riverside Ave, St. Charles, IL 60174

Mark Wilson from Unlocking Performance was our guest speaker at the Young Professionals Educational Luncheon. Mark spoke on Leading at Any Level; he provided tips and information on how to strengthen teams and personal careers. Attendees gained information on how to engage other employees and find their passion and strengthen their work ethic just by asking the right questions. Thank you to Kevin Brainerd from OnPath Financial for sponsoring this event!

Legislative Luncheon- Bruce Rauner Luncheon
Belvedere Banquets, 1170 W. Devon Ave. , Elk Grove, IL 60007

Governor Rauner spoke to 450 attendees regarding Illinois issues.  Although many people will ask him about the budget, he said that the budget isn't really the concern, but long-term items such as regulations, government reform, and the education system are.  He would like to see the government cut red tape/ regulations as this is really hurting manufacturing businesses.  With government reform, he would like to see changes in pension, consolidation of government agencies (the highest of all 50 states with more than 2000 over anyone else), and a freeze on property taxes so citizens can then vote locally if taxes should be increased for local programs.  Our education system is lacking in vocational training in high schools; we need to increase the opportunities with internships and apprenticeships.  He is hopeful that the Grand Bargain will get passed in the Senate in the next several weeks including term limits and a balanced budget.  He also mentioned that our businesses are the key to success in Illinois.  Lastly, Illinois is celebrating 200 years next year - we were founded in 1818.

Business of the Month
Carlson's Flooring

Carlson's business has been built on serving local home and business owners. Family owned and operated, we began in 1967 by inviting people into our home to make their selections of carpet, tile, and rugs. Today, our showroom is the family showpiece. However, the mindset of having guests in our home has never changed. Every client is our guest! We've been privileged to build our business based on our customers' referrals to family and friends. We take great pride in our expertise at every stage of every project. From in-store design consultations, to estimating, to customer service, to our expert installation services, you'll see how we are different than other flooring retailers.

At Carlson's we believe there is no project too small! We offer the following to EVERY client:
  • Complimentary, creative design services!
  • Free estimates!
  • A beautiful showroom in which to browse the latest in flooring fashions!
  • A wide variety of products that can be tailored to meet your budget!
  • Experienced industry professionals!

As a family owned business, we seek to find the best quality for a great price. We believe that all flooring, whether carpet, tile, or an area rug, is an investment in your home. The flooring options we sell are ones you will enjoy for years to come. Our association with the International Design Guild gives our clients the national buying power, another resource for expertise, and assists us in bringing the latest in flooring trends to our local clientele. Our design consultants are ready to suggest a variety of product options that will compliment each homeowner's personal style and budget. Carlson's installers are true craftsmen and pride in their workmanship shows.

While we remain committed to provide exceptional products and pricing, ultimately our experience has been that the customers make the difference. Personal connection is the primary component of the Carlson's Flooring experience. For 50 years, we have served our customers as if they were family.
