Keynote Speaker
Our keynote speaker will be Darshak Sanghavi, MD. Dr. Sanghavi the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Translation for OptumLabs. He is an award-winning medical educator and author of a best-selling health book.
2018 Lewis B. Flinn President's Award

The President's Award honoree this year is Nicholas Petrelli, MD, FACS . Dr. Petrelli is the Bank of America Endowed Medical Director of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Research Institute, Christiana Care Health System. Dr. Petrelli is a nationally recognized colorectal cancer expert.
2018 Public Health Recognition

The Jewish Family Services of Delaware will be honored this year with the Public Health Recognition Award. The JFS is a multi-faceted social service organization that embraces and fulfills a mission to strengthen individuals, families, and the community by providing counseling and support services.

April Academy Activities
National Public Health Week
The Academy/DPHA teamed up with the University of Delaware and the UD Partnership for Healthy Communities to observe National Public Health Week from April 2 - 8 this year!

The week was full of activities, and culminated in a lecture by Dr. Joseph Telfair, president of the American Public Health Association! Dr. Telfair spoke to UD students and public health professionals about how APHA and its affiliates respond to and shape public health in the United States on April 6.
Dr. Jack Geiger at CCHS
On Marcy 27, world-renowned leader in community health, Dr. H. Jack Geiger shared his insight on achieving health equity in the primary care setting. Dr. Geiger is a founding member of Physicians for Human Rights and co-founder of America's Community Health Center movement.

Spotlight On...
Victor L. Gregory, Jr., DMD, MAGD
Dr. Gregory is the Vice President and Secretary of the Delaware Academy of Medicine / Delaware Public Health Association.

Since 1994, Dr. Gregory has supervised and taught dental residents at CCHS in the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery and hospital dentistry. He earned a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD) Diploma and held leadership positions in the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association.

Delaware Mini Medical School
The Delaware Mini-Medical School began in 2009 as a measure to improve health literacy in the State of Delaware.

The six-week program is held in the months of March and April, and provides lectures by some of the esteemed health care professionals in Delaware. It encourages students in middle, junior, and high school to pursue a career in the health sciences, and allows the adults of Delaware to learn about different health topics in the news.
Science Cafe
Our fourth Science Cafe will be held on Tuesday, May 8! Join the Academy and the Division of Health and Social Services Library for a live event in a casual setting!

Karen Lopez, DVM, Assistant State Veterinarian, will be discussing "One Health: How the health of humans, animals, and the environment is interconnected."
