SPOTLIGHT ON ...
PULSE VETERINARY TECHNOLOGIES, LLC (PULSEVET)

PulseVet logo Location:
Alpharetta, Georgia, USA

What year was the company started?
PulseVet formed from the veterinary division of Sanuwave in 2009, which in turn formed from HMT in 2005. HMT was the original manufacturer of VersaTron and EquiTron - the first shock wave devices created for the veterinary market.

What products / services does your company offer?
PulseVet manufactures the ProPulse and VersaTron shock wave therapy systems for use by primarily equine and small animal orthopedics, sports medicine, and rehabilitation veterinarians. PulseVet provides extensive marketing and clinical support to validate the use of shock wave therapy for specific indications, and is proud to "give back" to the veterinary industry by supporting and sponsoring numerous professional, performance, and training organizations.

What should Veterinary Orthopedic Society members know about your company?
We are very proud to be leading advocates of clinical research and education in energy-related therapeutics. No other company in this space has the level of supportive evidence-based medicine that PulseVet has for our shock wave therapeutic devices, VersaTron and ProPulse. This includes all other shock wave companies as well as the many laser therapy companies that are substantially larger than PulseVet, in terms of active users. Our efforts are focused on the successful education and marketing of our technology at the client level, to best support our veterinarian customers, their clients, and their patients. Other shock wave companies have made claims using our research, but we would ask veterinarians to ask our competitors to see their research.

Can you explain a challenging situation that your company was able to solve?
When PulseVet took over the veterinary shock wave business from Sanuwave in 2009, the business was almost entirely focused on equine patients. We have since supported and sponsored extensive clinical research at several well-regarded teaching hospitals to support the use of shock wave therapy for small animal patients, addressing such indications as shoulder, achilles, and iliopsoas tendinopathies, acute and delayed fracture healing, accelerated and improved osteotomy healing following TPLO, reduced post-surgical pain, and chronic pain from osteoarthritis and lumbo-sacral disease. Our patient belief that this therapy has a strong and valid place in small animal medicine has seen our business in that market grow significantly.

Can you tell us about any new products or services your company is developing?
We recently released our new shock wave device, ProPulse, to ultimately replace VersaTron, which has been the industry leading shock wave device since it was launched in 2002. ProPulse was 'tuned' to match the output of VersaTron in order to utilize settings clinically proven in the past, but also has two higher power settings, 33% faster pulse rate (for shorter treatment time), multiple user-friendly upgrades, and is about half the size of VersaTron. We are currently supporting research to show reduced post-surgical pain following use at the time of surgery (shock wave therapy has been shown to have an analgesic effect lasting about 3 days in horses in previous research), as well as several studies utilizing shock wave energy with stem cells and other regenerative therapies to increase the effectiveness of these combined modalities.

For more information, please visit the PulseVet website at pulsevet.com.
