Instructions for Living a Life
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.
~Mary Oliver
Do you "over-think" your life? I know I am guilty of this! When we find ourselves overthinking, we set ourselves up to hang out in the future (not reality) or in the past (rumination)...neither of these domains are the present moment. Unfortunately, the present moment is often lost if we don't intentionally notice and acknowledge it. Mindfulness in its simplest form is "paying attention, in a particular way, to the present moment, without judgement" (Jon Kabat-Zinn). I love how poet Mary Oliver succinctly invites us to practice mindfulness with her simple, but not easy instructions: pay attention, be astonished, tell about it. I will be trying to drop in to these simple steps more this month, how about you?
Take a look at some of the resources I have highlighted in this month's newsletter to jumpstart your mindfulness practice. Let me know if you need some more ideas!
Wishing you a month of mindful moments,
Pam

Meditation is often an individual practice and pursuit...and it can sometimes feel like you are the only one doing it! It is a powerful addition to any mediation practice to join together every now and then in a group practice or retreat. Stress Resources' offers retreat days twice a year -- a nurturing day of silence and meditation practice to relax and refuel from the busyness of our day to day lives. The next Meditation Retreat Day will be held on
Saturday, June 9 from
9 am-2 pm in beautiful historic Concord, at the First Parish Church. Some prior mediation practice is recommended as there will be limited instruction during the retreat.
