FOSCL Grant Applications due May 31, 2019

The Friends of South Carolina Libraries (FOSCL) offers grants in amounts up to $250 for support of library Friends organizations in SC. The grants are intended to assist Friends groups with an emphasis on the following purposes:
Expenses related to the formation/incorporation of a group
Expenses related to obtaining 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status for a group
Expenses related to the revitalization of a “dormant” group
Expenses related to the initiation of new or innovative programs/technology designed to foster local library support which are principally sponsored by a library friends group
Friends Groups submitting applications must be a current member of FOSCL.

Dr. Janis Bandelin, Director of the Furman University Libraries, retired in December of 2018 after 22 years. During this transitional period, the Libraries are engaged in a self-study, external review, and space study. Dr. Caroline Mills, Assistant Director for Collection Services, will serve as interim director.
Several Furman library faculty and staff have been involved in the implementation of the new statewide library services platform that will be shared by PASCAL Consortium Libraries.
Three Outreach Librarians are collaborating with six ACS institutions on the $33,000 grant “Inclusive Pedagogy for Library Instruction.” Special Collections and Archives created three exhibitions including “
Book Illustration Processes, 1498-2016
.”
The Ninety-Six Press published its first book under the Libraries’ new stewardship of the imprint:
Archive: South Carolina Poetry Since 2005
, edited by Furman faculty members Gil Allen, Jeff Makala, and Bill Rogers.
Scott Salzman (Web Discovery Librarian) won the University’s Meritorious Diversity and Inclusion award for his work on web accessibility.

The Union County Friends of the Library
