Entertainment Stage Project
The Village of Union Grove is the recipient of a $100,000 grant from Racine County for the construction of an entertainment stage! The general purpose of the stage is to help create a sense of community by hosting family-friendly events at a walkable location in the Village. A community meeting was held on February 27 and subcommittees were established to advise on different aspects of the stage, including location, design, rules and fundraising. A decision on the eventual location of the stage has been referred to the Village Board, which has tabled the item to the next regular meeting on May 13. Look for updates on this project in future E-News and the project webpage .
Updates on Development Projects
Canopy Hill
On April 18, several members of the Village Board, Plan Commission and Community Development took part in a tour of Bear Development properties to review projects similar to the one proposed for Canopy Hill (located across from Union Grove High School). The group visited new construction sites in St. Francis, Somers and Pleasant Prairie. Representatives from Bear presented an updated concept plan on April 22. The project will require approval of a development agreement and the submittal of more detailed plans for Plan Commission and Village Board consideration. No timetable has been set for these items.

The Residences at Dunham Grove
On April 22, the Village Board approved a Development Agreement for The Residences at Dunham Grove, a residential development proposed by Pre/3 for the western part of the "Fonk property" located on 69th St., east of Shumann Dr. The project involves 63 single-family residential units and 120 multi-family units (10 buildings with 12 units each). The agreement is contingent upon the developer obtaining all of the necessary zoning approvals for the project, which are expected to go before the Plan Commission and Village Board in May and June. In addition to adding considerable assessed value and new housing options, the project will result in new water and sewer service to the southeast corner of the Village from Highway 11.

For more information, visit the Current Development Projects webpage.
Building Permits Reminder
The Village enforces building and zoning codes to protect the safety of residents and to ensure that work meets national, state and local standards. We strongly encourage homeowners to contact Village staff during the early planning stages of a project to determine code and permit requirements. Although contractors are usually hired to complete the work, it is ultimately the homeowner's responsibility to ensure that permits were properly obtained prior to starting the work. A double permit fee is assessed for work started without a necessary permit. Please contact Building Inspector Jim DeLuca at 262-210-1741 or for any questions or to discuss permit requirements.
