Seize the Summer
It's time to start thinking about summer! Our summer camp calendar is now online and the catalogue will be here next week so check your kids backpacks! You can register online at www.mhc.ab.ca/ContinuingStudies.aspx. We have a wide variety of camps sure to please everyone from computer coding, to golf, to cooking, to sports. So many choices!

Professional Courses:
This certificate program provides essential training in the flourishing field of project management and is designed to develop introductory project management skills that can be implemented in diverse areas, from IT to human resources, manufacturing to small business to the cannabis industry.

General Interest Courses:
This course has been designed to assist you in taking better quality photos while travelling, using your mobile device. The course will cover composition, editing using your phone's features and saving changes. Please bring your phone to class as we will use the app photo camera available through iTunes or Google Play.

Motorcycle Riding Instruction, offered in cooperation with Alberta Safety Council, provides on-bike practical instruction suitable for any inexperienced or previous riders. Advanced skills are taught by trained, experienced instructors. After taking this course, some insurance companies may offer a reduced insurance rate.

Swing Into Golf (Starts May 21)
Get a spring tune-up with our highly informative and enjoyable swing lessons. Suitable for golfers of all levels, the lessons will include the basics of grip, stance, set up, and swing. They will also focus on error correction techniques and the mental side of golf.

Want to create a modern piece of metal art for your garden? In this course, you will learn how to safely use various materials, tools, and techniques for basic welding to make a 8" and 12" dragonfly. You will learn welding safety and the theories of welding including how to heat and bend metal for the body as well as attached washers for the wings.

Swing Into Golf II (Starts June 4)
Our intermediate golf school is designed for those who know the basics and either have a handicap or are close to obtaining one. The school begins with an evaluation of your current golfing ability to create a personalized lesson program. All aspects of golf will be covered in an intermediate school from putting and chipping, to breaking down your personal swing. If you are looking to take your golf game to another level this the class for you.

Herbology for Alberta (Starts June 1)
This 3 day course is taught by Donna Rae, Master Herbalist. You will learn to identify 100 different herbs and spices and understand their complexities, as well as how to grow, grind, cap, make tinctures, salves. The plants covered in the course are the ones that you can easily obtain here in Canada.

Brooks Courses
Have you always wanted to learn how to weld? Come learn the basics of welding in a supportive and comfortable environment made just for women and take home something cool at the end of the class! In this course, you will learn how to safely use various materials, tools, and techniques for basic welding to make a decorative bowl out of washers.

Mosaic Mirror (Starts May 20)
Add a beautiful piece of mosaic art to your home! During the first class, students will create and glue the design on the mirror frame using pre-cut stained glass pieces. All materials and tools to create the piece will be supplied. The second class will be used to apply the grout and clean off the mosaic. The instructor will also discuss about to seal and finish the piece.
 
This course builds on topics from the Alberta Health Care Aide Certificate program. In this interactive course, you will learn how to care for and support people with mental health issues.


Project Management Fast-Track Program


 
 
Project Management Extension Certificate
(Offered in Partnership with Mount Royal University)

This program provides essential training in the flourishing field of project management and is designed to develop introductory project management skills.
 
This certificate program consists of the following courses:
  • Overview and Integration
  • Schedule and Cost Management

  • Leadership and Resource Management
  • Stakeholder & Communication Management
  • Risk and Procurement
  • The Business of PM
  • Final Assessment Paper (register directly with MRU)

The Canada Alberta Job Grant will reimburse 2/3 of your direct training costs. All of the courses/certificates above are eligible for this grant.

The grant application can take up to 30 days to be approved.

Canada-Alberta Job Grant
Canada-Alberta Job Grant released some exciting new changes!!

Changes to the Canada-Alberta Job Grant - means more incentives to train employees.

There are now more ways for Alberta businesses and workers to benefit from the Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG) training subsidy.
  • As always, get up to two-thirds of the cost of training covered for eligible current employees, up to $10,000 per trainee.
  • Up to 100% of training costs reimbursed when hiring and training eligible unemployed Albertans, up to $15,000 per trainee.
  • Sole proprietors can now apply to CAJG to train their employees.
  • Travel assistance will allow more businesses outside Edmonton and Calgary, to train their employees

Below are some interesting examples of how the Canada Alberta Job Grant can save your company some money. If you plan to take any courses (or combination of courses that total over 21 hour), your employer may be eligible for the Canada Alberta Job grant.
 

Example 1:
Management Skills for Supervisors
 
Regular price: $1,495 for one participant
Canada Alberta Job Grant pays: $996.67
You pay: $498.33
That's a 66% discount!  
Example 2:
Management Skills for Supervisors
 
Regular price: $4,485 for three participants
Canada Alberta Job Grant pays: $2,990
You pay: $1,495
