NYC CHAPTER NEWSLETTER - MAY 2019
From the President
May 2019

Our April 16 Tee Off Dinner energized our
group.  We heard from Jane Geddes about her vision for the future of LPGA Amateurs, which includes growing enthusiasm for the LPGA Tour and players. You may receive a very short survey to vote for your preferred LPGA Tour player to be our NYC Ambassador.

We extend a v ery special thanks to our Tee Off Sponsors, who supported us onsite at the event: Lumina Financial Consultants, Golf4Her, and Five Iron Golf, all of which brought great  energy throughout the evening, along with special offers and drawing prizes.  We also thank our many other sponsors who donated prizes, including Tory Sport, NY Golf Center, Chelsea Piers Golf Club, Diageo, True Spec Golf, and American Golf. We encourage you to support our sponsors and donors year-round.

A special shout out to our two fearless drawing ticket sellers  Peggy Chane  and Rhonda Besunder, who helped us exceed last year's fund-raising.  Our grateful thanks to print designer  Geri Sciortino , owner of  The Bronx Design Group , who handled all our print materials with great flexibility and patience. Thanks to all members and guests who attended the event, making it the largest ever. And a great big thank you to Fran Linton, our Marketing Director and Tee Off Chair, for organizing this spectacular event!

I wanted to highlight 2 programs that otherwise might escape your attention:

1) I signed up for the Biggest Loser last week. Golf Handicap , that is. (I should have signed up last year and did not.) Go for it! $10 to register by May 15, make an effort,  take some lessons, and you never know.

2) Women On Par Scholarship Applications are open. When Yolanda Santiago-Hasbun, Shannon Britton and I attended the LPGA Amateurs National Conference in 2016, I remember hearing from an On Par scholarship recipient and was moved by her story. She was an older, single mom who was attending college part time as she ran her own cupcake business in the south. A few LPGA Amateurs members were her customers and she observed these ladies were confident and professional, and she identified a model for how she wanted to be. She joined the organization to learn to golf for business (her cupcake business grew more rapidly), and she applied for the On Par Scholarship. The scholarships are presently small -- one $2,000 scholarship and one $1,000 scholarship are awarded each year to non-traditional female college students. For the recipients, it makes a difference. So keep these scholarships in mind, if you or your daughters or granddaughters want to apply, and also if you are looking for a way to support the charitable arm of the LPGA Amateurs, the
LPGA Foundation.

Our chapter's golf and social events are in full swing now through the next six months. Drive on!

Open Play Needs YOU!

Thanks a million to Deborah Duffy who stepped up to serve as Open Play Chair.

However, we still need volunteer organizers to cover Open Play weekends. T he organizers will be responsible for making tee times on a weekend (Saturday and Sunday; Holiday Mondays too, where applicable) and sharing that information with Deborah by Saturday noon the weekend before the scheduled dates.

Then, the organizers are responsible for managing replies and getting back to participants to confirm their attendance.

To help support Open Play, email Deborah Duffy at  dduffycap@hotmail.com.

Please note: There will be no Open Play on weekends for which we do not have volunteer organizers!
Watch the Birdie!

Congratulations to one of our members, who earned a BIRDIE recently on the course.
