The Pearlman Emergency Food Pantry Van Gets a Facelift!
April 24, 2019
The Pearlman Emergency Food Pantry van is a vital tool in the work that the Pantry does everyday to feed the hungry in Central Florida. Our Pantry Assistant, Audrey, uses the van to visit and pick up food from local grocery and community partners.

Until recently, we used large magnets on the van to distinguish it as the JFS Orlando Pearlman Emergency Food Pantry van. However, the magnets would usually either melt onto the van under the hot Florida sun or would fly off in transit. We knew we needed a better way to brand the vehicle while also ensuring Audrey's safety during food pick-ups.

Thanks to The Pearlman Family and to FastSigns of Orlando, the Pantry van got a facelift! Sporting the JFS Orlando colors and information, it’s ready to continue travelling around the Greater Orlando area picking up food for the hungry. (Not to mention, it is now a great marketing tool to get the word out there about JFS and our work in the community.) Keep an eye out for it when you’re on the road!

The Power of Giving:
 Counseling, Growth and Development Program
Mental illnesses, varying in degrees from mild to severe, are very common in the U.S. 1 in 5 adults, about 46.6 million people, in the U.S. experiences a mental health condition every year. (Source: NIMH)

That’s why the work of our Counseling, Growth and Development program is so vital. Our program aims to provide mental health counseling in a trusting and healing atmosphere, always keeping our client’s needs at the center.
Only 41% of adults in the U.S. with a mental health condition received mental health services.
During this Mental Health Awareness Month, take a moment to reflect on your mental health. Educate yourself on different mental health conditions and what could be impacting your health. Fight the stigma and don’t be embarrassed or afraid to talk about it with a friend, family member, or support group. Others could be going through something similar. And, if you think your mental health isn’t doing well, treat it by visiting a counselor and exploring what you’re struggling with.

JFS Orlando’s licensed clinical therapists can help you navigate through anything from life’s daily struggles to those big life-changing moments. They’re specialized in a variety of areas including stress, career concerns, parenting, depression, marital and premarital, grief, and weight loss.
Meet Lesline
“After my son’s birth and his death, JFS Orlando offered counseling to help with my grief. Grief comes over you in waves, knocking you down and engulfing your body. My counselor gave me tools to use to help me find my balance. She helped me look at life as a series of challenges. Some we can control and others, we cannot. I realized that I could never find the answer as to why my son left us so early, but I know we will always keep his memory in our hearts.

Thank you, JFS Orlando, for helping me mend my broken wings, and heal my broken heart. Thanks for being here and for being a positive voice of reason.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you always!”

In 2018, JFS provided almost 2,400 hours of mental health counseling. We’ve more than doubled our client total from approximately 120 clients in 2017 to about 360 by the end of 2018.
