Western North Carolina Planting Calendar for Annual Vegetables, Fruits, and Herbs
Western North Carolina is a wonderful place to garden. Almost any type of vegetable or fruit can be grown successfully provided you choose appropriate varieties and plant at the right time of year. The climate, the season, and potential pests all affect the selection of what and when to plant.

Homeschool 4-H Program

Static Electricity
Static electricity, we all know about it. Rub a balloon on your hair to make it stick up. Sometimes when reaching for an item you can get shocked by the static. Then there is the static where a sock sticks to your pants.
But did you know static can move a plastic straw? What about it moving an aluminum can? Or even move water? One of the 4-H homeschool groups was able to test items to see if any of these questions are true. After discussing how static electricity is created, the children were given a chance to do experiments. Different types of material were used to create static. The children found some items worked better than others. They were fascinated that static can move a plastic straw, an aluminum can, and water.
If you homeschool your children and are interested in having them join one of the homeschool 4-H groups, please give Julie a call, 828-389-6305.
