Summer Postcard Exchange sign-up and assignments

Did you sign up for the annual PaperWorks Postcard Exchange? There's still time! By May 5, email [email protected] w ith your name, snailmail address, and email address (phone optional).

When you sign up you agree to be an anonymous (secret!) sender, and to make and send one (or more) postcards to each postcard pal over the summer. At the May meeting you'll get three names and addresses - I'll email to you if don't pick up. Cards can be any size. Cards larger than 4” x 6” need regular first-class postage, not postcard postage. More info: US Postal Service www.usps.com

At the September meeting postcard pals will be revealed. Bring the postcards you received, and see if you can find the people who sent them to you!

PLEASE sign up ONLY if you intend to participate, so nobody is disappointed.

Happy postcarding! Sue Agnew

NOTE: This is different from PW's fall exhibit at the Postal Museum. See Board News below for info about those postcards and deadlines.

Bobbie's News

Our meeting May 9 marks the end of another great PaperWorks season. And all the energy you bring means it will be a creative meeting with lots going on!

Our room opens at 9 and again we'll have tables set up so you can display your art - what you've done in a Workshop, PaperPlay class, Creative Meet-up, or on your own. Bring it in, add a sticky note with your name, and showcase what you have been working on this year!

At our 10 AM business meeting, you'll be voting in PaperWorks board members for the coming year. You'll meet our four scholarship recipients from Pima College and the University of Arizona, who will display their art projects, introduce themselves and tell us what inspires them. Come and support our students!

Social/mingle break from 10:30-11 - time to catch up with old friends, meet someone new, and see all the creative artwork that has been made. Be sure to p ick up the names of your secret postcard pals for the Summer Postcard Exchange! And scoop up your copy of our spring Journal featuring the Cigar Box Challenge .

Arizona State University's Ann Morton is our very special speaker at 11 AM. Her fiber art, graphic and environmental designs will excite and inspire you. A program not to be missed!

Bring your printout of the Bauhaus 100 Year Anniversary Book, written by Margaret Suchland. I'll be teaching a free Pop-Up class at 12:30 PM on how to bind this very special tribute to the legendary and influential school of art and design. Bring a lunch or something to snack on before we get started!

Over the summer, do take time to post your work on our PaperWorks website!  We have a Members Gallery, and you will enjoy seeing the work of your fellow members. Follow simple directions on the webpage to send images to our webmaster Anne Lucic for posting. Questions? [email protected]

I look forward to welcoming you and your guests at our May meeting. Don't forget your recent art for our show-and-tell tables.

Bobbie Wilson, President

IN MEMORIUM

Dolores Heredia Memorial Service

Long-time PaperWorks member Dolores Heredia passed away on April 25, 2019. The family is having a celebration of Dolores's life from 1 to 5 PM on Sunday, May 5, at her home, 1961 North Lindenwood Court, Tucson, 85712.

Mabel Dean tells us that "Dolores has been a long-standing member of PaperWorks up until recently when her health began to fail. She served our organization in many ways and even last year came to meetings. We will miss her presence on this planet. Please send out a notification to the PaperWorks membership so that those who knew her can honor her by attending her final party."

Fond Farewell

In April, we said goodbye to Nora McGinnis, valued PW board member, exhibitions chair, head projector-trouble-shooter, fiber arts instructor and so much more. Off on new learning journeys - Haystack this summer and grad school in fiber arts (Indiana) in the fall. Happily, we were able to tuck a modest PW scholarship in her suitcase. Stay in touch, Nora - we will love seeing where this path leads you.
